Labs Feedback: Joint Accounts šŸ¤

The new account selector is in the latest TestFlight. Plus there is some haptic feedback when using the shortcut at the bottom:

They have also added the ā€˜Joint Accountā€™ label to the card in app:

No idea. That may be how it works, I donā€™t know. Thatā€™s why Iā€™m asking the question.

Interesting. Yes it does look likely then, thanks.

Ah ok my apologies. Yes thatā€™s CASS. both the full switch and partial switching service allow for moving of payments you can see the key differences here:

https://www.bacs.co.uk/services/accountswitchingservice/pages/accountswitchingservice.aspx

CASS allows switching for most personal and some business current accounts and full switch is guaranteed. You can switch sole to sole, sole to joint and joint to joint.

OK, but is that something that banks are authorised to do without a BACS instruction under CASS? (As in, could Monzo do it at customer request?)

No it has to be initiated under full or partial switching which is agreed to by the customer. The old bank has to verify the customer ID in order to allow the transfer

Just setting up the joint account. To be honest Iā€™m skeptical of the benefits. It feels like a bit of a 90s solution to the problem of bill splitting and sharing spending. The joint account letā€™s me split / track spending that me and my partner share. But what about spending that me and anyone else share?

Iā€™d rather be able to treat them all the same and just have an easy way of breaking down payments I make or sharing rich metadata about transactions I make on other behalf so that they can track their spending too.

Anyway, will see how it goes and see if we find it usefulā€¦

I donā€™t think that Joint Accounts are supposed to be the solution for every type of scenario where youā€™re sharing money / spending. But Monzoā€™s planning to do a lot more in this area, for example -

For me, thatā€™s not the problem it needs to answer. What a joint account provides is a guarantee that my wife has access to my money (such as it is) when I die horribly on the way home from work. That way, the family continues to eat while everything else is worked out. (Itā€™s not quite as true as it once was but I still earn a disproportionate share of our collective income)

Bill splitting and sharing spending can be done with pots or just about any other mechanism the mind can invent. Legal rights to access shared money, maybe not so much. (I donā€™t want my widow to be the one forging a route through the courts about the legal definition of a ā€˜joint potā€™)

A post was split to a new topic: Removed Posts - 18/7/18

Completely agree with this. Would be a useful feature.

Keep getting secure token error when trying to transfer from current to joint account. I feel the selection switch between account is to hidden. A swipe across would be good.

Improvements to account switching are in testing. Should be out in the next release.

Have you received and activated your joint cards? You canā€™t transfer until cards are activated

Hello. I am LOVING that Monzo are now doing Joint a/cā€™s!

Can anyone tell me a rough date for when Iā€™ll be able to switch from my BOS Joint to Monzo. If itā€™s ages away Iā€™ll just start doing it manually (what a bore, we have quite a few DDā€™s and SOā€™s on that a/c) - I canā€™t wait to shut the BOS Joint down and get more control of our spending & saving (+1 pots on joint) with Monzo.

When might we be able to account switch?
Thanks

Yes received the cards today, when you press to move money. Then press transfer use Touch ID then it goes onto a red screen saying sercure token invalid. Then onto 4 pin input screen. The transfer does go through regardless though.

In Android when I use the ā€œMove moneyā€ feature in payments, thereā€™s a little bug. Normally, I tap on the amount to specify an exact value (rather than use the plus and minus buttons). After entering an amount, I then usually tap off the virtual keyboard to close it, but in this instance, the keyboard doesnā€™t slide closed. It does if I press the blue tick on the keyboard, but not if I tap somewhere else on the screen. Note that when I choose to add or remove amounts from pots in my personal account, this functionality works fine.

Edit: the android soft button (down arrow in the bottom left of the screen) also slides the keyboard closed as expected; however, the cursor keeps blinking in the amount as though Iā€™m still entering a value Screenshot_20180714-112734

Just to mention, I have a similar issue with this functionality & dismissing the keyboard on iOS. I canā€™t remeber the exact steps to reproduce it now but Iā€™m sure the teamā€™s aware of it already

My partner has an iPhone and I couldnā€™t seem to replicate it on her device, at least in the same way :+1:

Iā€™ve just remembered that I recorded the process (donā€™t ask ) so the issue is that if you tap the field to enter how much you want to deposit / withdraw, you canā€™t close the keyboard again, unless you tap one of the + / - toggles that change the amount (although the amountā€™s not changed the first time you tap them) which is a bit of a pain.
