I picked Apple Pay - I miss being able to pay for stuff on my Apple Watch, but thatās just me being lazy.
Also, I wish it would integrate into Cleo.

Apple pay. Got a few apps which use Apple pay (local bus company being an example), and I canāt use monzo for everything because of itā¦
Living in the android ghetto gets tiresome.
My biggest complaint is the lack of interest, when Santander is giving 1.5% for up to £20k.
Iām surprised interest hasnāt been mentioned yet on this thread.
Though this complaint, by no means detracts from the awesomeness of the current offering, and is dwarfed in size by the compliments I have for Monzo.
As others have mentioned, itās more convenient with the Apple Watch, but itās still more convenient with a phone than a physical card: If Monzo support Apple Pay, we donāt need to carry a wallet in our pocket along with a phone. Having to carry more than one thing (oneāthe walletāof a much fatter size) in pockets is annoying, especially when smartphones have been out for 10 years now and can do everything a physical wallet, keys etc. can do.
The other main advantage of Apple Pay over using physical cards tends to be that thereās no limit on transactions. Before Apple Pay, I couldnāt use contactless with my Santander card for transactions above Ā£30. I could with Apple Pay. Some people have said they think Monzo contactless cards support transactions over Ā£30 (I think), but I havenāt been able to test that yet.
[ā¦] Iām sure this will change shortly though [ā¦]
I wouldnāt be so sure. This tweet from Monzo the other day suggests they havenāt even scoped out the work for it yet or started working on it.
(@anon91821566 goes on to suggest they are under an NDA, as many of us have suspected, and Monzo suggest later theyāre waiting for a āseal of approvalā from Apple, but this tweet by Monzo seems pretty clear to me. Unless Apple Pay is a trivial thing to implement once Apple give the OK, Iām not holding my breath weāll see it soon.)
Lack of features compared to Legacy banks
Itās still payment references for me, and no acknowledgement that is even being considered from Monzo.
I mostly use starling due to this. Itās just easier to pay bills with.
The latest Android beta has this. When you go to make a payment, previous references are pickable from a little dropdown.
Oh my! Well Iāll await the update imminently then! Thanks.
Just noticed this. Good spot!
This is still a half-baked solution.
And Monzo claims to be a challenger bank
Perhaps, but itās an improvement on not being able to use previous references. No-one has said this will be the final implementation, Iām just saying what it does now.
This is arguably no worse than my legacy bankās implementation which just populates the field with the last reference, rather than letting me select from any previous references.
Indeed, you are correct. My point is that these challenger banks havenāt even got the basics right if they implement solutions that are worse than legacy banks.
Unsure who you Bank with but both RBS and First Direct have implemented this stuff pretty well.
HSBC, who maintain a list of recent payees, however if you sent a payment to the same payee multiple times with different references, they appear in that list multiple times, once per reference, which is actually worse UX (than Monzo).
Monzo is, at least, challenging HSBC
HSBCās web app at least. The mobile app just fills in the last used reference. And based on the screenshots of the FD mobile app, that does the same no?
My requirement for payments to same account number / sort code, but with unique references, comes from things like paying money into the savings accounts of my children.
First Direct and RBS both allow me to set up a payment and save it.
I can then set up a second payment to the same destination but with a different reference (in this case, the destination account number.)
Itās all thoroughly thought through and easy to use.
Maybe itās because Iām on androidā¦but I can do that and indeed do, on Starling. I have two payments set up to MoneyFarm, one ref for ISAā¦one for normal savings Accountā¦?
Maybe Iām misunderstanding, are you sending to 2 different accounts (i.e. 1 per child in your example) or the same account but with different references?
I believe both cases are covered in the current (Android beta) monzo implementation. If different accounts, they are saved as recent payees already, if different references, the references you previously used are accessible directly when making a new payment.
