To be fair, there have been reports on here in the past that Monzo’s app stopped working when a customer changed iPhone. The workaround was to delete the app and reinstall from the store and not from a backup of I recall correctly.
Can anybody comment on how big an upgrade the camera is from the 11? The impression I’m getting is that it’s not that big a leap (over what is already an amazing camera system).
It could just be me but I am very impressed. The dynamic range on the ultra-wide seems much better. I think it picks up far more detail, especially in high contrast situations with lots of sun/shadow
Having seen the improvements I think the Pro Max will be mind blowing I just hate the size…
I don’t think it’s a huge leap, comparing it to my partner’s 11.
Of course my pictures look much better than his to start with, but the iPhone 11 doesn’t have an OLED screen. When he sends them to me and we look on the same screen the differences are few.
Nightmode on the wideangle and portrait cameras seems to be the big upgrade. Occasionally useful I guess, although I can’t remember ever doing nighttime landscape photography.
It’s the app, not the developers.
I’m no fan of this government but this is not their fault and is an issue with Apple and Google and their API.
It’s the same with the notifications of exposure without anything being in the app - the API not the developers.
I found if you go into exposure notifications in settings and just toggle it off and back on, it seemed to reset it. No reinstall required.
Guessing it’s expecting you to be on your old phone so it glitches and dies.
The talk about the NHS app got me thinking. If you can’t carry over a backup, then I could theoretically have been near someone on Friday long enough to be exposed, get a new phone Saturday and even if that person tested positive and entered it in the app I’d never know as my new phone now has a new ID and no history. Or am I missing something?
Nope, that’s correct. I think it’s a flaw in the Google/Apple APIs and not in the specific app though - others were warned on Reddit last Friday on upgrade day
On a separate note, I’m so happy with the iPhone 12 Pro battery. I know it’s to be expected and my 3 year old battery had obviously deteriorated, but it’s nice to not have to connect to power midway through the day anymore.
Same, I’ve found the battery life decent, I’m ending a day with about 15% left so far (that’s 8am - 11pm). So it’s about right for my usage.
Completely agree.
I think the issue being touted with the U.K. app is that it won’t let you simply toggle it back on on your new device,
My new iPhone just arrived, and has been set up, in Scotland I merely had to launch the app and enable it again.
A bit concerning there’s no way of transferring this to a new device, as anyone I came in contact with on Friday will now not be able to notify me if they are infected.
Not sure how they can patch that without compromising the privacy first design approach though.
Do you not still have your old device? I just booted mine up a couple of times to see if I had anything.
I do, but I’m getting it boxed up for selling today. Perhaps it’s worth hanging on to for the week, to be safe.
Yeah I was wondering how long they can still come for? I guess a week is reasonable
Many who traded in their old iPhones though the iUP () are a bit stuffed now since there is no way to access what was on the old iPhone. Surely iCloud could’ve backed up the anonymised tokens and downloaded them on the new device? Or if not iCloud, an encrypted iTunes backup should at least have them
I would have thought, doing the quick setup where it transfers everything from your old phone to the new one via an encrypted direct wireless connection, it could have been transferred over that way.
Been playing with my new phone, testing apps, and one slight annoyance is the Monzo app is one of the few apps not optimised for this display size. The interface is rather zoomed in and a little pixelated as a result. The keyboard is also larger too than in other apps too because of this so typing feels clunky.
Hope the app gets updated for the new iPhones.
Coming from Android all I’ve noticed is how wonderfully optimised everything looks
Completely agree, i’m temporarily using Android for a week and I can’t get over how much better the iOS version feels, I cannot wait for my new iPhone to arrive! The Android versions is horrible in comparison
I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference, but the 6.1" screen isn’t a new size is it? It was on the XR/11? So Monzo should be scaling for it by now!
