iOS 26

With the WWDC dates being announced I figured I would make this years iOS 19 thread.

Nice. I’d say I won’t do the beta this year but we all know on release date I’ll be downloading it.

Apparently this is actually going to be called iOS26….

i get they’re trying to simplify it to be consistent across the other products but it seems so unnecessary

Marketing….. although having a consistent naming convention will help the non tech savvy. Although how often non tech people even know the operating system is called iOS is probably debateable!

Snoozefest

Very underwhelming for “the biggest update since iOS 7”

I guess the “Hold Assist” and call screening might be useful.

Other than that, nothing special for me.

Those the only two things I thought would be good too

I’m rather impressed with many of the updates and looking forward to installing the betas once there is some stability (and all my apps work).

Nothing much interested me this year. Last year I thought the update looked very promising and it failed to live up to hype or even materialise.

I’m glad they are redesigning the camera app - I always seem to be flicking through to the right mode when I need to take a photo quickly.

The iPad update looked pretty good, but I don’t have an iPad

I’ve downloaded on my iPad. Safe to say I won’t be installing on my iPhone right now. It’s pretty messy.

Going to stick it on the iPad, some size of beta at just over 8GB. Not really followed it this year so have no idea what I’m getting into.

Won’t likely put it on the phone this time around, too many issues with missing Lloyds notifications and the camera app from the last betas.

Can’t say I’m loving the new design. It’s giving basic vibes . My text keyboard is also very 90s

I still can’t believe they haven’t put a row of numbers along the top…or at least have it like the iPad where you can pull down.

I like that they’ve kinda reverted back to the old way of having the photo library separate from all the other photo stuff though. I really didn’t like having it all together.

This is…messy. Won’t be upgrading on iPhone for a while. The default icons look like AI generated then, what’s with the white cutting in dark mode. Also I’m not a fan that the search bar in safari is now default to the top.

Some things are nice such as better window scaling. As as others have said feels very mac like

My search bar in Safari is still at the bottom. I didn’t change anything.

Edit: just realized you’re on your iPad so probably different slightly.

I think they’ve just ported in how photos looks on Mac which is super nice. I didn’t like how they had designed it in iOS 18.

Cautiously installing on my iPhone. I like some aspects, and don’t like others.

I like the keyboard as it feels bigger and the haptic responses feel better for me.

There are some bugs here and there but it’s literally just dropped as a developer beta so it’s absolutely to be expected.

I do like the battery section now though:

You also get a really good feel for the liquid effect in the music app, swiping between sections can literally be like swiping a drop of water:

It’s hard to capture in an image but it’s fun to swipe your finger to and fro.

The music mixing is a tad jarring at first but I actually quite like it already. It can make some songs sound super odd towards the end but no different to a club when they mix songs.
