Only for apps in the ‘News & Entertainment’ category but still fairly embarrassing for Apple…

That article is after my own heart. I know some people like the AI stuff, and it works well for them, and it’s great. I just want an AI-less experience so have switched most of it off.

I turned it all on as soon as it came out, just because it was new and I wanted to try it out. But I disabled it all a couple of weeks ago as I found it to be so inaccurate it was pointless.

The only new feature I find myself using frequently is ‘Clean Up’ in the Photos app.

You realise a lot of what your phone does are AI, right?

The only differences being:

  • They were not branded as AI
  • They were not rushed out the door a year or two before they were ready to avoid the perception of being behind

Aside the image generation stuff, which is either your thing or it isn’t, and is more a proof of concept for on device models than anything, all Apple Intelligence is right now is a beefed up spell checker and summarised notifications.

I kinda wish, at least with respect of these features, they took the Procreate line. Despite what they say, there’s a lot of AI involved in what they do, too.

Opened the App Store to be greeted with this. More great QA from Apple

I had this one off a mate this morning. FYI he didn’t break a leg.

Rushing AI out the door was really worth it.

Indeed, it was quite alarming at 5am this morning when I was half asleep still.

The notification summaries definitely has been a huge miss from Apple. But then Apple Maps also was terrible at launch and they (eventually) turned it around.

I’m an Apple person, so don’t know about Android phones - does Samsung or Google phones have notification summaries sorted and working? Or was this something Apple decided to try and ‘leap’ over the other phones with something that they hadn’t launched (yet) because they’re playing catch-up and wanted something different?

Unless I’m missing something, my Samsung phone hasn’t got this feature and I’m glad it doesn’t. Really don’t see the point of it, especially when it is pretty badly implemented.

I’m just a big AI sceptic and Apple’s really helping convince me that AI is a load of shit that I shouldn’t trust.

So I don’t really care if Android has it – if it can’t accurately summarise 3-4 text messages, why should I trust it with a work report that a colleague has fed to Copilot to generate an amazing email from?
