iOS 17

It’s odd too as I downloaded most of Spain ahead of time for my trip in July, if you zoom out too much, it becomes “not available for this region” but zoom in a little bit and suddenly you’re good to go

Other than the sticker thing and accidentally stumbling across the password auto clean up for OTP, nothing else is different or changed for me.

Doesn’t feel any quicker either, maybe I’m too simplistic to notice change :joy:

They change the spotlight search quite drastically, there’s a nice slower animation now and when you search for an app you don’t have installed it gets presented with a coloured background, looks pretty

The issue with the disappearing widgets is still a thing, I had the bug in iOS 16 too

How it should look:

Your images didn’t upload.

I blame O2 and they’re shitty upload speed, I’m in the office today, so it’s relatively non-existent

Ghost widgets.

An example of the keyboard, not disappearing when it’s supposed to

What did Steve Jobs say “the keyboard is there when you need it, not there when you don’t”

I could just stop complaining and go back to iOS 16.5

And lose a day or so’s worth of data (provided you have encrypted backup to restore from, as regular backups lose some data).

It’s possible I’d lose some health data, yeah

But I do like the new iOS 17 features… the contact poster, also my watch is on WatchOS 10, may not work with 16.5, so I’d be shooting myself in the foot

It’s a day 1 dev beta we signed up to so bugs were to be expected.

I don’t think it will do. When I had iOS 16, watchOS showed an update to watchOS 10 but I couldn’t do it until my iPhone was on iOS 17

I know, I’ve been on much worse beta’s before, iOS 17 is pretty stable compared to what iOS 16 dev beta 1 was

Bit the bullet and installed on my iPad this morning given the lack of apparent issues being reported - so far so stable! Will wait until after Glastonbury to install on my phone though.

Think the interactive widgets and customisable home screen on iPad are the biggest things for me this year. Interactive widgets feels like such a ‘finally’ and excited to see all my favourite third party apps updated when it’s actually released.

Lots of other nice little bits of course (Siri, autocorrect, the contact sharing etc.) and WatchOS improvements look fine, although def a let-down compared to some of the rumours about much bigger redesign/re-imagining.

Update: it didn’t fully charge again overnight

There’s none of that “green charging” thing that the u.s has:

I plugged it again this morning in the living room as it continued to charge

Seems very bizarre, it’s not a faulty charger I don’t think

I think your Optimised Battery Charging has gone screwy and it doesn’t know when to charge beyond 80%.

There’s a setting somewhere that does this and I’m sure it’s to do with power management such as when device goes in or out of low power or saving mode.

Might be confused with android though.

Looking at it, it does seem that way! It should start charging from 80% 1-1.5 hours before my alarm goes off I think

Strange. Mine turned out to be the pad again, it charged to 100pc fine last night.

I’m noticing a slow but steady UI revamp in iOS 17. The new Messages icons feel really out of place on iOS to me, almost like they were lifted from some Android manufacturer.

There are also some little fun tweaks like the brightness and volume sliders (and other such sliders) are stretchy!
