Just signed up as an ex Plus user. Personally, the feature set is quite interesting to me - especially having other accounts in the same interface. Getting an easy overview of my money across my various accounts was always painful, switching between apps and authenticating in slightly different ways each time. Being able to easily “pull” money from external accounts is a great addition too!
Virtual cards are something I’ve always wanted to be able to do more easily than having to find a buy a pre-paid card. I was aware of the mechanism for generating these “cards” but until now it’s been in the hands of corporate users exclusively.
One thing that could have done with a bit more explaination is the “Advanced Roundups” - being able to double your roundup is cool - but until I actually got to the Edit screen on a pot I had no idea this was what that feature meant.
Like the custom categories and splitting transactions. It would be cool if you could add one of the splits to a tab, or split it. For example, I go shopping and get a weekly shop, but also some things for myself - being able to split the bill into (for example) “shared groceries” and “personal care”, then adding only the shared groceries to a tab would be awesome.
Oh and it would be useful to assign labels to external accounts. e.g. an external personal account, and an external joint account, appear as two current accounts and the only distinguishing factor is the account number on the card illustration
I, for one, don’t mind paying a little extra for advanced features like this - without them, you still have a great product. My expectation would be that over time, some of the features might end up being deployed for everyone, not just Plus, and that new features will be added that are Plus only.
May i suggest the virtual card can be shown on the main page with monzo card and linked cards rather than hidden away on the plus page? would be great, the UI is beautiful i have to say, just needs some insurance features and you are golden
Virtual cards have been worth the asking price for me. I’ve been using them for pretty much all purchases since lockdown. Mostly so that I don’t have to get up and find my wallet to get card details
Tsb and virgin money not supported banks I wonder if the banks shown are ones from larger banking groups linked on same system like Lloyd’s bank of Scotland and Halifax all use same system and rbs and NatWest so both lots are always shown together and it’s up to the bank or building society what accounts outside of current accounts they let you see elsewhere
You have a single app and login for Capital one, then when you go to add card to monzo it presents you with your list of cards to pick one, then when you return to monzo its switched over from Previously added
Looks pretty slick so far! Look forward to it being developed further. Definitely worth £5 for 3 months to give it go.
For me to pay £5 per month longer term i’d like to see at least my mortgage with santander in there and ideally my pension with standard life. Getting to a full view of all my finances and monzo being the hub for this would be great.
Feels like the first time we’ve seen a genuine exciting feature release for a long time.
It’s not something that i would pay for myself but i can see why some would.
What i do find annoying is that custom categories and transaction splitting (this one in particular) don’t seem like chargeable features to me. They seem like fairly standard developments of current features.
Overall, I think this is a better proposition than the previous Plus. I do think it’s a shame that the connected accounts are now paywalled when it was originally scoped as a “make money work for everyone”. To be fair, I’m not sure Monzo ever said it would be free but still…
I’ll possibly sign up in future but it’s only really worth it (for me personally) when it supports joint accounts! Would also like to see Vanquis bank added as a connected account for those unfortunate enough (like me) to have a credit card with them!
