That’s a shame to hear; I think I’ll wait for Amex to be added before I upgrade
It adds £10 to your account then charges you £5, it sounds like it does the check before the money is credited.
The Virtual Cards screen does suggest either pots or joint accounts would come in the future, given the payment source line
Congratulations!
I’ve signed up - 2 months for free can’t be sniffed at - would have liked Joint Account to be included in this but I’ll try it and see if it has enough value for me after month 3.
Do the virtual cards continue to work and remain the same even if the physical card has expired or been cancelled? Them continuing would be great as I’m a frequent loser of cards due to severe ADHD symptoms.
Yup, we do this as two separate payments, so you’ll need to pay £5 before you can sign up
Fair price. I’m going to trial and see how it goes. See you in 3 months!!
This is a fantastic release already. Fantastic work from the team.
We also tested this internally (well, at least I had a prototype one briefly…)
edit: Adding virtual cards to Apple/Google Pay doesn’t make sense right now, because the money comes from the same place, and cards on your phone are already “tokenized” and secure.
Ah I get ya, thought I’d missed something at first, thanks for clearing it up
Fantastic work guys, a great improvement over the original plus. Virtual cards, multiple accounts and even the free cash deposit a month make it easily worth the money.
Ohhh and the shiny new card
"I think flop in the making isn’t quite accurate. "
Pretty hard to judge either way before it launches but I am still going with dud - really weak features that I will apply to a niche group of users.
We’d love to do this, and we did some tests on it! You could then add it to Apple Pay, and have a “fun money pot” or do envelope style budgeting.
The bulk of the work would be ensuring we’re compliant with all the regulations - as soon as you add a card to a pot it could be classed as a “payment account” and trigger a bunch of legal and compliance work .
Does this mean regular subscriptions like Netflix can be paid from a pot now?
I think this initial launch looks great so far. There’s definitely a solid foundation of features that can be built on. The price is great too, £15 to test it with the opportunity to earn some of that back through interest seems like a no-brainer.
I’m definitely looking forward to AMEX being added. I know you’ve said they use a different API, is that something the team are working on now, or should we expect to see it much further down the line?
It would also be great if you could expand on this. What sort of direction were you heading in and is it likely we’ll still see some of these features on the other end of the pandemic?
Final question, I assume the new holographic card only comes in one design, i.e. no ‘Investor’ marking?
Yep, that’s exactly how it works! Just pay for all your subscriptions on a virtual card and if you lose your physical card, the subscription payments will just keep going through on the virtual card .
Not yet it seems. Per @richardcadman comment above it suggests only personal account funding for now and now tweaks otherwise
I would love for virtual apply pay cards too.
Some of the things I use Pots and IFTTT for could be entirely managed by that alone. (Though appreciate the extra work)
Are there any limits to how many Virtual Cards?
You can have five at any time, but if you close one, you can open a new one.
We include the investor tag on the back, along with the rest of the details.
I’ll see if anyone on the team can share a picture…
And If I cancel one what happens when a payment is attempted? Assume rejected rather than just taken from the current account?
