Hey @anon42837389, thanks for your honest feedback. I’m sorry you feel we’re being a bit slow to build things at the moment.
Personally, I think we’re building things very quickly. Just looking at the April Update we published today, I feel that we’re packing loads in every month. But that’s just my opinion, and I understand if you think we’re not focussing on the right things.
You’ve asked about how development works at Monzo. We have a blog post about that too: How we build the Monzo app. I hope it answers some of your questions about what’s going on behind the scenes. But let us know if there’s anything not covered there you’d like to know.
Is there a particular feature you think is missing? We aim to keep our Roadmap updated (I need to do it for this month’s update, thanks for the reminder!). I hope this helps to set some expectations of when things are on their way.
Nothing wrong with that but disagree that you are entitled to do it in a nasty way . Could you have raised the same points without borderline insults? I think I could have - I share at least a few of them

As a developer I get quite annoyed, but then remember that most people aren’t devs. The parts that are visible to users represents maybe 5-10% of the codebase. The rest invisible to the user.
If you want a comparison, I have been with HSBC for twenty years and NOTHING has changed, apart from the fact that they now have a website and very limited app. The actual functionality has literally never changed, apart from keeping up with industry schemes such as chip and PIN, contactless, faster payments and Paym. Monzo had the first three (and a way better app) from Day 1. Pretty quick, eh?
Well - it’s certainly not bad for a traditional bank. There is some functionality for which I always get “Unknown Error” !initially on iOS and now on Android), and they can’t resolve e it - and it’s been months, almost a year. I still maintain this account for incoming SWIFT transfers.
In my opinion Monzo’s development, especially as the current account is still in its relative infancy, is moving along at an acceptable rate.
You need to remember that Monzo isn’t Barclays or HSBC and doesn’t have the budget that these massive corporations have.
The fact that you can come on a forum and discuss these topics and have input from Monzo employees to me is more important than the time it takes to implement something.
For me I prefer to do things with minimal fuss, and Monzo allows me to do this so I’m happy…
They’re literally building a bank. You don’t want them to rush out features that could cause your money to vanish from your account, or make people think their bank is buggy. It’s probably the most important institution you deal with in your life. People rarely change banks, so when they do, they need complete trust. I’d rather features were slow and functional than rushed and buggy. (That said, I’m happy to be a beta tester and get access to buggy stuff! All my Apple devices are on beta builds and I’m aware of the risks that come with that, but obviously that’s opt-in).
Can you actually though? I feel it’s the same as tell CS about a feature you want in a legacy bank. You feel like you did your part but it won’t really matter unless a lot more people align with what you say. The forums are more like a distraction. Something to stop people from flooding the chat with feature requests. What actually change has a forum brought so far?
