I find this message kind of Nasty [Flex - not eligible for higher limit]

Now it might just be me but the way this is worded seems wrong. I pay my card of in full before time every month.have 2k in saving pot hundreds if not at least thousand every month in and out as well as joint account that get used never missed a payment on anything in my life no bad marks at all ever on credit rating my other accounts have even more money going in and out. my partner who is with me on joint account very rearly use Monzo gets increase offers every time now it’s Inportant to know I am not after a increase of any kind at all it just baffles me what there criteria is

The only thing you can take from this is that whatever the mysterious criteria is, you didn’t meet it. Same for everyone else unfortunately - if you don’t meet it, you also don’t find out the reason.

That is just a generic message based on the metrics Monzo uses to assess this sort of thing. Banks don’t really go into detail when you are rejected for this sort of thing. It isn’t nasty, just standard procedure

They can’t disclose their criteria. This is a straightforward message. What do you expect it to say?

Just seems straight to the point to me. :man_shrugging:t2:

I guess so.

Unfortunately having a good credit history with no negative points and good history of making payments won’t be a guarantee of being offered new products or increases. It’s somewhat of a myth that having even an excellent credit score will guarantee being approved for anything. Maybe the income isn’t enough or there’s something else about your financial profile that isn’t compatible with their criteria, but you can try again another time and see if it’s changed. The message itself seems pretty much the same as you’d get with any bank though, I wouldn’t say it’s nasty.

There is nothing nasty about that message in the slightest.

How do you cope in the real world!

“Nasty” is a very strong word to use. No financial institution is going to tell you exactly why you don’t qualify for something. They have to be vague to prevent fraud and abuse of the system.
The screen from Monzo doesn’t come across as nasty to me at all. It’s concise, apologetic, and offers some generic possible reasons.

Ok Nasty might be to strong but something along the lines of Sorry can’t offer you a increase right now but try again in a couple of months But it was never about the increase happy as I am it’s just there criteraia and there assumption of how I use my other accounts they no nothing about

What is your limit?
Its just the limit is £6k and thats an old limit, I think £3K is the norm cap now.

When they say “how you use… other bank accounts”, they don’t mean they can see all your transaction history. Unless you specifically share that with them, they won’t know.
However, they will know:

  • How many accounts you have
  • Whether those accounts have an overdraft
  • Whether you use said overdrafts
  • Whether you use an unarranged overdraft

All of this in in your credit file, which Monzo will be able to check.

You can no longer request an increase if you’re at the £6k limit, which is a welcome addition (recently!), so that I can stop checking for a higher limit! :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s not a lot of money in the grand scheme. They may be anxious how you’d afford a higher limit.

If you’re barely hitting £1k wages/benefits, it’s fair to say there’s a risk issue on both sides.

You get a higher limit, can’t afford the payments when you spend it, complain to monzo and you’re possibly off to default.

Monzo needs to lend responsibly, and if they can’t demonstrate you can afford XYZ by your income, it’s not responsible for them to give you more than you can afford to pay back.

While you may pay on time and in full, they still feel your current limit is where they are comfortable to offer.

And usually account turnover.

I know that burnycubbers77 I have 2 overdraft’s that have never been used in years good credit on each account 1 loan outstanding but always paid point is my partner has exactly the same only used Monzo 2 times in last year and apparently fits I was only wondering I dident fit I guess sorry if my post offended anyone

That wouldn’t be helpful information and would lead to people asking why. This at least tries to point you in the right direction as to why.

That’s the same message I’m getting.

I don’t like it either, especially being told they don’t like how I’m using my Monzo account. Didn’t they like me switching my current account to them and using it as my primary account? That can very quickly and easily be changed!

Personally I’m giving them until early Jan next year to increase my limit or it goes in the bin

I actually think, it used to say this… or similar to that - and then people would come here asking why! :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s not what it says.
