I agree with all of that.

But to reference the poster upon whom I was basing my argument, it would seem that Starling made the correct call. They say, in the same post as they bemoan the policy:

I’m not quite sure why this person even wants a Starling account. If they think this, it makes them a higher risk of re–closing in my opinion.

The problem with insurance was on Admirals website. I couldn’t call at the time so transferred to another card to pay. I’m not sure it required 3DS but it was around £70 and did use 3DS on my other card so it’s possible.

I did have a few physical card issues where money was taken but declined on the reader. This has happened on both contactless and Google Pay. Had this issue at McDonalds and Tesco at least

I did originally have a faulty chip and needed a replacement card (the decline issues were on the new card) so did have a fair number of issues

I agree with the other comments regarding opening and closing accounts. I don’t intend on messing round opening and closing accounts. I only left because of the issues I had and felt that another bank would be better for now (but I was wrong). I agree that people shouldn’t keep opening and closing accounts but I think going back once is reasonable (especially if things have changed since you left)

I found their customer service shocking when I used it, very legacy orientated, very corporate and not the same feel as Monzo but I thought that was maybe due to the fact that they aren’t very old in terms of how long they’ve been around and everything takes time to get right.

I approached them about rejoining, and the cold dismissive and corporate attitude I received made me feel like I didn’t matter. I then realised they will never change, they’re not customer orientated. It took them a month just to tell me when I could rejoin after never receiving an answer to any of my queries, getting told by two different agents they were passing on my queries to ‘a team to investigate’ and hearing nothing, then claiming they’d sent emails which I never received, yet I seem to receive emails from everywhere else just not from them!.

It made me realise how much more respected you’re here at Monzo… Their trustpilot reviews aren’t exactly glowing either.

So after using Monzo as my spending card for the last month for as many transactions as possible, I have taken the plunge!

Really looking forward to being back with Monzo!

(I’m also getting increasingly frustrated with the legacy bank that can’t even get transfers to work on their app without crashing)
