That card looks a right mess!
Thank you for saying this. Maybe it’s because everyone on here is from the south but I’m honestly disturbed too by reading many of the comments on here. Since when is donating £36 to a bank for essentially nothing of value been socially acceptable ? Especially when the cards have so many flaws so the product isn’t even ready.
Now we’re just being silly.
Well bloody said.
I’m northern. I genuinely believe banks like Monzo can bring a great deal of positive change. Everyone I know that’s got Monzo has seen a marked improvement to their financial lives. If Monzo was a charity, that worked to improve “financial education” in the UK, then donating money wouldn’t be a problem. But because they’re a bank that are trying to build a sustainable and profitable business, whilst also improving people’s financial situation, suddenly it’s completely different??
I invested in Mondo, I still believe that over the last fours years we’ve gone from strength to strength. There’s loads more to do, but look how legacy banks across the UK are scrambling to keep up! It’s great!!
So what if I’ve paid half price for a half baked product. And so what if I don’t see the full benefits for a few months, I’m happy to support Monzo in their push to change the banking industry. And I knew (because I think it was made perfectly clear) what I was signing up for.
Just like I’m happy to donate to charity, pay more to shop local, pay more for green energy etc. etc. I don’t have to, it doesn’t directly benefit me, but it’s about the bigger picture and the very small contribution I can make.
So kindly get off my back about it
You’ve summed it all up here.
My reasons for joining Plus were very similar.
Also northern and completely with you
It’s a little like tipping generously at your local independent family run restaurant because you feel affinity to their entrepreneurial sprit, enjoy the product/food and feel they add to the community. You don’t have to tip 15% but you want to show them support. You understand its a hugely competitive market with big rubbish chains gobbling up the high-street. They are for profit and i could leave the commercial transaction at the menu price and not tip at all but I want to see them grow, keep doing what they are doing and developing the menu / investing in putting the chef on a course or hiring new staff that benefits the community too.
Now, my dad hates tipping. He believes the price is the price. He’s a removal man and very rarely gets tipped for breaking his back carrying heavy stuff up stairs so doesnt get why he’d tip for food. But, lots of people do tip and tip generously. Both sides of the coin make sense. Neither is “bonkers”
I’m northern (not that it makes a difference) and I have Monzo Plus
If you don’t like Monzo Plus and don’t see any value in it, don’t subscribe. It’s really that simple. Nobody is forcing it on you!
By all means give your feedback but do not start attacking those who have it for whatever reason that may be. More importantly, don’t make stuff up to push your agenda otherwise you’ll make yourself look foolish and you’ll lose all credibility
Who’s on a flag fest then?
On topic: I received my Monzo hot coral plus and decided not to use it because the Plus was basically invisible anyway. I would like to have plus visible so that people can ask me what the plus means and we can chat Monzo
I feel one of the main things everyone is missing when complaining about people paying for the current plus offering, is that all of us, myself included, signed up to an EARLY ACCESS. It’s not finished, we know it’s not finished, that’s fine. It’s my choice to sign up to that. Based on your reaction I can only assume none of you have ever pre-ordered a game? Same concept. I’m also in the Beta testing programme, so whilst I can raise bugs on issues to help out, I definitely can’t complain about things not being fully functional because that’s what I signed up for.
If you don’t like it, that’s fine, no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to sign up. If all you can do is come on what should have been a constructive forum post and complain about “bloody southerners”* and people doing things that you don’t like, maybe you should leave because it is neither constructive, nor enjoyable for the rest of us.
If you don’t have enough money to possibly even consider, god forbid, someone spending £3 a month on something they are interested in then I would suggest the problem isn’t just being northern. Maybe you should take advantage of some of Monzos handy budgeting tools.
*I’m not from the South
Received mine today, went for ‘Midnight Sky’… I have to admit rather disappointing quality and all round appearance as some others have mentioned.
To someone that doesn’t know what Monzo is I imagine it just looks like some sort of budget credit builder mastercard Wish I’d stuck with the hot coral, at least it was a talking point when you get it out!
Asides from this like many I have signed up to Plus for what it could/will be, not necessarily what it is now. I’ve wasted money on far more frivolous things in the past and sure I will again. So why not ? Looking forward to see what comes of it all.
*Oh and I’m also from the North
I’m from Scotland, what is this ‘north’ you speak of?
This, this and more this!
Also this:
And finally.
I have, and will continue to have, the Hot Coral Card because the colour is eye catching and loads of people comment on it. The Plus on the card is subtle but that’s ok, I’m not bothered about my ‘Plus’ status, just that I’m with a bank that is helping me be much better with my day to day finances.
(also: the emoji on this forum needs updating, they are missing a certain flag…)
:black_flag::black_flag::uk:
Scotland, England, Wales, and Great Britain.
So which one are you referring to?
Ohh, I see what you mean now.
One for Discourse to fix.
I used to have an interest paying current account that was the name of the account RBS had and also had a royalties gold account which was also their packaged account and I used it but the services were pre-packaged and not the things you actually wanted but dvd rental from lovefilm was good but that is history and now I have curve cards metal subscription and I want take any other packaged account if it’s offering travel insurance cause I will only be allowed one payout not two when things go wrong I like the idea of pick n mix plus account but it’s not getting better quickly it feels like it’s just carry on waiting for the foreseeable future will there be major changes before 2020 I don’t see it yet RBS never gave a different card for their packaged account so I never saw the difference and no one was thinking oh what’s that when they see my monzo card or curve card they wonder what is that. RBS did change the cheque book to show royalties on it but that’s all
Wow try reading that in one breath
Genuinely don’t know what your point, comment, or question is here.
