Have you tried a powerline adaptor?

Get some proper wireless gear. Ubiquiti Unifi is quite good.

No, I did get an extender which didn’t make a lot of difference.

I’ve got an older Nighthawk, are they not up to snuff anymore?

Meh, that’s overpriced consumer-grade garbage. Frankly they were never good.

Get yourself one of those instead. Try it, and return if it it still doesn’t make any difference.

I used to use these, no problems at all.

I have a lot of those and they’re pretty bad on my side. They will consistently loose sync for a minute or two (at random, not related to powering up any heavy appliances) during which no packets will flow between the adapters. Happens every few hours and it’s so damn annoying.

The “AV600” branding is also completely misleading because they have a 100Mbps port, so you would never be able to take advantage of the 600Mbps even if your electrical wiring was perfect and free of interference.

I never had any issues with the ones I had, maybe coz I have all new wiring etc?

Anyways don’t use them now as I Virgin Media and the modem where I want it.

I need a new fibre router, my trusty RT-N66U is struggling these days and tends to crash and reboot under heavy load :frowning:

If you want the best consumer networking gear with mesh wifi… then I can highly recommend… this

Solid wifi throughout my tenement flat with massive stone walls.

Definitely going to move to ubiquiti gear for the wifi but can’t justify the cost of their routers to the other half :frowning:

Here’s a good and cheap one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/UBIQUITI-Networks-EdgeRouter-Gigabit-Router/dp/B011N1IT2A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1533118552&sr=8-2&keywords=edgerouter

My wife was the same… previously I had a 2nd router hooked up to powerline to push the wifi to the back of our flat, but this wasn’t reliable and the wife hasn’t happy.

Tried Ubiquiti AC PRO… which was great, but if I wasn’t around and something went wrong… it wasn’t classed as wife friendly.

So… found the Amplifi HD and it’s incredibly wife friendly… and she actually likes the look of the router

Thanks I didn’t actually realise there was a cheaper range, I went straight to the rack gear!

I wish we could get this in the UK

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D4821JB

Says free delivery to UK, sign up to US prime trial and you might get it quicker.

One of those building site yellow brick 110v transformers would work perfectly fine for the step down from 240v too, just would look a bit rubbish in the kitchen!

I see Tado have backed down over their subscription fees.

Instead… Existing customers have the pleasure of paying £20 for a new app (which is a clone of Apples “Home” app).

Nice that they listened and responded… But I still won’t be upgrading the app!

Even though they’ve backed down, it would make me suspicious of their future moves - everyone wants a subscription these days, money for old rope!

Yeah, it’s a bit ropey - I’m not a fan of the subscription for everything thing - Although it seems there is no stopping it.

Forgetting about the company - The system itself is excellent.

Not so sure a hands free microwave makes much sense… you’ve still got to open the door and put the food in. On my microwave it’s literally 2 button presses to start automatic cooking, so that’s the maximum I’d save.

Also this problem… “Once I connect the microwave to my WiFi, I can find the microwave with the GE app, but it keeps going online, then offline, then online, etc.”

That’s kinda expected when you have a microwave using 2.4Ghz wifi right next to a magnetron also emitting noise on 2.4Ghz…
