Both Huawei and Samsung seem to be going this route… Better or worse than a notch?

I think I would try wiping it off the screen until I got used to it. It’s definitely a no from me.

I would rather have a think bezel on the top of my screen… I have the iPhone XS Max at the moment and most apps don’t even make use of the small parts around the notch and videos are kind of annoying to watch in full-full screen mode so I usually watch them in the generic full screen mode which just looks like an iPhone 8 Plus.

The new hole punch is probably a little better though.
