Google Pixel 6

Pre ordered and flexed the payment straight away! With selling my current phone and the free headphones to sell I’m hoping it should be a £300-400 upgrade

Also the Google site can do one, 2 and a half hours to checkout if I didn’t get 10% store credit for Google one I would have bailed.

My screenshot earlier was from Amazon mentioning the free headphones, but they aren’t on the list of participating retailers. Also no John Lewis. They do have CPW and Dixons Travel which don’t exist any more though.

Got mine pre-ordered with Curry’s along with the headphone offer.

I was going to get a Fairphone but held off to see what’the deal was with the security updates. That pushed me straight to Pixel once it was confirmed 5 years worth.

I’m really glad to see them finally offering a reasonable period minimum for that.

I wonder how long it’ll take other Android manufacturers to adjust their prices that sneaked them over the years following Apple and Samsung.

Who’s going to buy a Motorola Edge 20 Pro at those prices.

It was actually a clause by the chip provider which stopped them providing long term. The new Tensor chip doesn’t come with that restriction as it’s one they’ve got control over with the design.

I’ve not read the full in’s and outs about why a 3rd party chip provider would block this, but I’m assuming it’s because people buy more devices once the updates stop.

Edit or something to do with Qualcomm not wanting to spend time providing updates for their chips. I can’t remember the actual reason now

That has happened at every google phone launch I’ve ever participated in… you get used to it.

I’m a bit surprised Apple didn’t preemptively trademark M2, M3, M4, etc.

Of security, 3 OS updates guaranteed.

Qualcom has no incentive to provide updates for chips it has already sold and moved on from.

Looks like this has changed slightly over time.

That definitely helped persuade me

The Pixel 5 has not quite worked out how I had hoped, so into the Pixel 6 for the long haul

Agreed. I kind of give them a half pass given the very competitive pricing but it’s still disappointing.

Just bought the 128GB Pixel 6 in kinda coral. Between the 10% Google 1 credit back and the free headphones I think it’s a pretty great deal all in all.

Guaranteed Android system updates to October 2024 is plenty for me. Then with another 2 years of security updates, that’s the icing on the cake. Can almost guarantee that the difference between one version of Android to the newer will end up been miniscule by the time we get to 2024.

Sure thing

Slick experience. Great camera. Better fingerprint scanner than my old phone

It is a bit smaller than I expected - I would like a bigger screen
The fingerprint scanner is absolute and utter tosh

The in screen fingerprint scanner on my Samsung tablet is pretty good, so I have high(er) hopes for the Pixel 6 than for my current phone

One thing I do miss about Android is that OS updates are far less of a big deal as apps are just constantly updated.

With iOS you’re waiting all year for an update to Messages / Reminders / Notes and if they decide to skip a release you’re just stuffed.

My only criticisms are why is the Pixel 6 so heavy compared to the Pro?

207g Vs 210g

The Pro is bigger with a bigger battery so the non Pro should easily be sub 200g.

Edit: Pixel 5a same size/battery at 183g

Second is going with 30W charging which is a bit old for 2021.

Other than that can’t fault it £599 seems a great price for what you get.

The main competition are on 20W and 25W fast charging.
