With evias replacing brps for everyone in the UK will there be a verification method added to use the ukvi share codes as many refugees and people with humanitarian protection like myself do not have physical identification anymore since the home office stopped making new physical ids like the brp. Will evisa verification through share code eventually come to this bank?
Yes, even I am struggling with this. so I’m 16 and I was signing up for Monzo account. But when I did go and try to scan my BRP, it was saying that my BRP is expired. Once that happened, I checked the card and it was showing that it’s Valid Until 2023 And then I asked my mum about it and she said that there is something new called as EVISA And they have stopped creating the BRP’s And then I asked her about my BRP Whether if it’s even valid or not. She said yes, it has and she showed me a screenshot of it. And the problem is that I can’t open it since I won’t be using my passport for doing it and I have to open it in the next few days as soon as possible. And I would like Monzo to consider this and do something about it so that we can create our Monzo bank accounts with EVISA ASAP.
If you’ve got a BRP, I think that means you have ILR so you won’t have a visa as such, but you can get a share code to provide to people who you would previously shown your BRP.
BRP ≠ILR. Even those with ILR are now sent emails to get eVisa. Probably those not through the EU settlement scheme.
Many people who got ILR last year still had their BRPs expiring in December 2024, same as those who were extending their visas.
All we can do is I think just wait for it.
My OH has ILR with expired BRP and has been told to use the share code. No eVisa mentioned. Worryingly, she has tried electronic verification at the border three times now and been told there’s no record of her permit on the system.
I think the system is not yet “there”. I know people who naturalised and even got UK passports but still able to generate share codes using the expired BRPs.
Given the history of the Home Office keeping records, this is a problem waiting to happen. At least the OH kept her EU Permanent Resilience card and it doesn’t expire until 2028. Maybe it’ll be sorted by then.
