Electric Scooters (Bird, Lime, etc)

Well that could happen in the future I suppose

Police starting to take this issue more seriously, perhaps?

Think it depends on the local police forces priorities. I’ve had no problems with mine, even saw an old guy in his 60s riding one the other day lol

A lot more opinion on the Facebook post about it…

My guess is they will send out a few tweets and do a half hearted attempt to ā€œeducateā€ people - but really they are just waiting for the inevitable legalisation to come through in 12 months time. Not sure if there are any up to date FOI stats on confiscation levels, but I haven’t noticed any difference in police attitude towards them in London at least. I’m not even sure many police themselves realise they are illegal.

Possible. Yep.

They’re selling them in Currys now. Also kids ones

Another one seized

That’s more of a motorbike than a scooter.

Yeah a very fast one too which was probably going over 20mph and dangerously

Any updates on how the trials are going ? I haven’t seen or heard anything for a while

An e-scooter is (legally speaking) a motorcycle.

Hang on, earlier you were arguing that deregulating your e-scooter to go faster for uphills was not dangerous? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Yeah because the max is 19mph ( not that I ever go that fast ) . Anything over 20 would be too fast. I stick to around 12mph and nobody has a problem with it ( yet )

The scooter you posted could easily go around 30mph

I think the key points here are:

  1. Speed is not dangerous per se
  2. Speed is a contributory factor in many collisions
  3. These types of vehicles are currently illegal so speed is largely irrelevant

Probably still too soon, check in 3 weeks when it’s been a month

Though this came out recently:

This topic is discussing e-scooters. If you don’t wish to read posts about them, you’re free to disregard this topic.

Another one confiscated.

Repeating the same point ad nauseum is not a discussion. Yes, we know they are illegal, yes we know in some circumstances the police are enforcing the law.

You seem quite angry today.

Yep. Shame. I’d like to talk about these machines. They could solve an urban mobility problem once a proper legal framework is in place.

Let’s have a sensible, grown up conversation please. I’m talking to @anon70107404 and the point has been resolved but you’re intent on creating unnecessary division. Please stop it. Let’s talk about the topic. Thanks.

Everyone is welcome to have their opinion and mine soon changed after doing some research and riding around on one

However constantly posting every time a scooter gets confiscated is pointless . The fact is if you ride sensibly you will be fine
