Hi, it isn’t possible to delete conversations as far as I’m aware. You may be able to ask CS to delete but I’m not sure if they would even be able to. Probably on close of account does all data get removed.
Even then that wouldn’t do it. You can submit a “right to be forgotten” request to Monzo if you don’t want the account anymore, but even then they won’t delete all of the details as legally they may need to still keep some of this.
Would the 5 or 7 year rule apply if closed and did nothing?
I’ll caveat this by saying I’m not a data professional but my understanding is yes. Normally companies will choose to keep the data on the basis a claim or SAR request is subsequently made which, likely, would be justification for keeping the data.
People can’t keep things “just in case” however there are often ways around this for companies who are wary of deleting more than they should.
