Where are you going? Obviously outbound, their duty will be to make sure you fulfil the requirements of the country you are visiting.
We did the PLF at the hotel the night before departing Portugal and we checked in at the airport. I’m probably not the norm because my airline status meant I had express check in so it was a few mins to do at the airport.
I wasn’t able to check in online, with British Airways.
Agree with the comments re KLM, schipol has been well organised throughout as has KLM. CDG in Paris was chaotic initially but much better now. AF have resumed in flight service as well.
Re the paperwork, last time we did the PLF it didn’t have a QR code so you need to print it or download. There is a reference number which should be ok to give but we have always had a copy with us. As mentioned you will need to have booked a day 2 test as the code for that goes on the form. Just booked ours with testing for all who get good reviews from Which and are only £17.
Remember the paperwork listed is what you need to get back into the uk. There will be a different set for the country you are travelling to and this changes fairly regularly so check FCOD advice.eg for France you need an attestation d honeur
Agree with comments re using one of the EU apps to display your vaccination status Tous Anti Covid is the French one and works better than the nhs app. You can load in your certificates by scanning the QR code shown in the nhs app (using another phone or printed copy). Certificates loaded into the app are only valid for one month after loading then you need to repeat.
Yes they see PLF when they scan passport provided it’s a UK one. I didn’t need to show mine but my wife travelling on a French passport was asked to show a paper copy as they couldn’t see hers online.
Just search for “tous anti Covid” in the Google play or Apple App Store and download to your phone.
It will display everything in English.
There’s an option to add a Covid pass. Click on that and use your phones camera to scan the QR code for your vaccinations.
You can get the QR codes by printing them off from the nhs app or if you have two phones display on one and scan into the tous anti Covid app on the other.
No issue with showing it at borders and it’s a lot faster at loading up than the nhs one.
The QR code looks identical to the one in the NHS app, which you can add to Apple Wallet. Is there any advantage in using the French app? (I’m off to Germany soon, all being well.)
There’s shouldn’t be any difference. The NHS code is now integrated into the EU scheme. If they scan the barcode, it will work.
The French app was a good workaround while they were integrating it.
Tbh I used my NHS one in Portugal and nobody batted an eyelid.
The official Netherlands gov passport scan app is available for anyone , has cross border options, if you want to give yourself extra peace of mind.
You can choose the destination at the top and scan each vaccine shot separately and it tells you if your covid passport is okay.
There’s an iOS app too.
I had my Covid booster yesterday. I’ve just realised that I’ve had 5 vaccinations this calendar year, but can still only use 3G reliably at home. Have I been conned?
The French app is a lot faster to load in my experience than the NHS I’ve. But if you save tge code in your Apple wallet that’s fastest.
French app has other features such as Track and Trace equivalent, News about covid, what to do if you have symptoms, location of test centres etc.
The test to enter France is only if you are not fully vaccinated. If fully vaccinated you just need proof of that (NHS app) and sign a document saying you have no symptoms and have not been in contact with anyone with Covid (attestation d honeur)
For the Netherlands, they uodated their requirements last week. The FCO web site currently states:
If you can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated
The Dutch authorities currently classify the UK as a ‘very high risk country’. This means that fully vaccinated UK nationals, who can provide acceptable proof of vaccination, which includes the NHS COVID Pass, will be allowed to enter the Netherlands. Please see Demonstrating your COVID-19 status below, for further information.
Fully vaccinated travellers arriving in the Netherlands from the UK via aeroplane, ferry, passenger car, train or bus must show one of the following:
Fully vaccinated travellers are exempt from quarantine on arrival in the Netherlands.
It’s a QR code so can just be screenshotted if time is of the essence, though a wallet will work too.
A step too far???
Absolutely. I imagine / hope this will be met with some resistance. Knee jerk reaction to rising cases, where they have to be seen to be doing something.
I’m sure some will think this is a great idea though, sadly
It is a great idea. Medical exemptions aside, this should the case in every country. The tin foil hat nutters and people who believe everything they hear, selfishly causing problems for everyone else.
If you are not medically exempt, you should have the vaccine.
I hate that I’m torn. Instinctively I do not believe in compulsory medical procedures, but I’m 99% of the way to agreeing with this.
I would probably rather make it more difficult but not impossible to live without a vaccine (ie. going into shops etc) but I’m also fully aware of how this is fairly unprecedented and my views might not fit this specific situation and need to adapt.
I agree. Rounding up people, knocking on doors and dragging them to an appointment is probably a step too far.
But if you want to live and do things, shop, socialise, drive, then you need to be vaccinated.
