Contactless and Apple Pay declining - Potential Bug

Issue:
Contactless and Apple Pay payments both declining after switching to new device. App did request verification which went through and was accepted as confirmed with support. Card only worked when using chip and pin.

Details to reproduce:
I’m not 100% sure on the exact cause, two things happened which I would suspect.

I switched phones to a new phone, redownloading the Monzo app and logging in as well as setting up Apple Pay on the new device.

I also enabled Advanced Security features within the app when I was setting it up on the new phone.

OS:
iOS 18.1

Device:
iPhone 16 Pro Max

App Version:
5.95.0 #5950052

Screenshots:
N/A, payments appeared as declined in app until chip and pin was used, those payments were approved.

Have you tried again after using chip and pin?

Chip and pin should have no bearing on Apple Pay.

My best guess is contactless payments have been turned off in app, because Monzo’s contactless toggle frustratingly acts for both contactless and Apple Pay.

We all know you love a toggle.

Carlo! Don’t make my eye twitch!

Thanks all for the replies, can you point me to where the ability to disable contactless payment is? I can only see the ability to disable/enable Magstripe which shouldn’t be relevant to this issue.

The issue has been solved by the way - I just thought it would be useful to mention my issue in case anyone finds they are having the same problem. My best guess would be that enabling ‘Added Security’ around money transfers has the unintended feature of disabling contactless payments somehow.

I’m having trouble finding them myself.

Thinking back, the toggle might have been replaced completely by the new sliders, which shouldn’t affect Apple Pay anyway.

From the home tab, tap card > limits > contactless single tap.

If you don’t have the new sliders yet, then I’m not sure where the toggle will be, but it should be in the same menu somewhere.

If you have the sliders, my guess is wrong.

Yeah I only have the ability to set contactless limits, not disable it. I did check that but my contactless limit was set to £100 and the payments I tried to make were only £5 and £7 so it should have been fine.

And yes Apple Pay was also not working and as far as I know there’s no limit there.
