Like Chad I have also been talking to the CS team via the app, but unfortunately I’m not getting anywhere with them. They tell me they’re experiencing a problem but never follow up and the problem is still outstanding.
That’s not acceptable support behaviour for Monzo IMO. I’d suggest reaching back out to them and potentially raising a complaint if you aren’t happy with that
I was informed yesterday that they had a glitch
After s few minutes I was told to try again and I did so later in the evening
It then worked
No issues with CS they where spot on for me
Sounds like much better service than I have received. I opened a CS ticket on December 3rd 2017 and after a few back and forth emails they went quiet. I chased up after six week’s of silence in February (they said they were looking into it) but never actually provided me with a fix.
The last response was two week’s ago, where they said the problem was with Apple Pay and not Monzo, but I don’t get issues with Apple Pay for any other merchant or bank - just Monzo.
Sorry to hear that
As I said my experience was really positive and very fast
All now resolved this end
Hi Ollie,
I’m really, really sorry that we’ve fallen short here
I’ve asked someone to chase this up with you as a matter of urgency.
Best,
Hugh
I’ve also experienced this issue and CS seem to say the persons bank is blocking it, something I doubt. Anyway looking forward to Apple Pay Cash
My initial thoughts were that it was the cardholder’s bank blocking it due to some fraud algorithms
Unfortunately, in almost every single case I’ve investigated in my time here at Monzo, this is genuinely the case. ![]()
It’s made significantly more awkward by the way the Apple Pay sheet works in this situation, the tick and success sound only indicates that Apple Pay initiated the transaction successfully and does not tell you if it was actually approved by the card issuer.
The inner workings of fraud systems at other banks are a mystery to us, especially when a transaction may decline with Monzo.me when using Apple Pay but be successful when using the physical card details, even if Apple Pay works elsewhere. This often leads people to blame us. ![]()
All that being said, I have a todo on my backlog to look into how we can at least make card declines clearer to the person sending money. No promises at this stage though.
especially when a transaction may decline with Monzo.me when using Apple Pay but be successful when using the physical card details
It’s funny given that the Apple Pay transaction would have a very low risk of fraud (as the card details are tied to a physical device) compared to a physical card. Great example of legacy “innovation” right there. ![]()
Ditto. Sometimes the issuing bank has literally told the customer they’ve unblocked it, only for it to still not work, and we’ve had to get them to call the bank and speak to someone else to try again, which is a terrible experience, and makes us look like we’re passing the bank when we aren’t!
Had a similar experience with Nationwide, where their 3D-Secure wouldn’t let me through a purchase, throwing an obscure error code (turns out that error code is the only one that could’ve been displayed - why even bother with a code then? To make it look more cryptic, serious and “secure”?). Despite calling repeatedly and having them approve the transaction as legitimate, it still didn’t work.
This was the topic most relevant but feel free to move to a more suitable one.
I’ve used Monzo.me for the first time today and my friends each owed me £11. Sadly the screen to send me payment would only allow multiples of £2 so I’m now down by £5 (they paid me £10 each)
I can’t be bothered to try and get £1 from each friend so all in all a really poor experience using this. Can the +/- buttons be removed and replaced with a keypad so that payees can pay me what they owe?
You can, by tapping on the amount, which then gives you a keypad.
I assume this wasn’t apparent as I’ve not had the right amount back from any of my 4 friends. Needs changing IMO
It’s the same system as adding funds to the pots. Nobody can figure it out for that either
Tap and the numbers come up?

Yes but do I have to explain this every time I request money if it’s an odd number? Having two systems isn’t a good solution
No, it should be indicated. I big red button in the middle with ‘push me’ would be better. Tbh anything would
Passing the bank! Freudian slip?
