Christmas payments

So if i didnt have monzo i would of been paided tomorrow by uc at 1am but because i have monzo i have to wait till 4pm tomorrow this just feels wrong and unfair i got monzo to get my money earlier but now this is messed up i would of thought i would of been paided today after 4pm this needs to be discussed and fixed as its unfair to anyone else in my situation

The timeline you’ve given is more likely than not incorrect, you’ve probably misunderstood the process and you did still get the payment early.

Before people start piling on here and giving incorrect advice @10971232 when did you write this? I’ve got a feeling this post has been held in review so we’re seeing it a few days late?

Can we whack it in here? @WhoEverIsXmasEveAdmin

Absolutely everything you said is wrong.

You will never get paid by Monzo at 4pm later than you’re actually paid. It’s always the day before.

So you’re not correct based on what you’ve said.

Hi and welcome.

I too suspect this has been held for a few days. But, to confirm a few things.

  • Monzo works just like every other bank. You get paid when it’s sent. So if it was 1am with HSBC it’s the same with Monzo.
  • Monzo do “Get Paid Early” which allows you to get it (if paid via BACS) from 4pm the day before
  • No bank would pay on Christmas Day, because it’s a Bank Holiday
  • If you were due it today you’d have been paid so long as it has been processed last Wednesday by the sender otherwise it will be the 27th, Friday.
  • You’re welcome to raise a complaint (I don’t work for Monzo) but it’ll likely be upheld as they’ve not done anything wrong.

Hope you can still manage to have a good Christmas

EDIT: According to the Oracle @davidwalton it might show early for a payment due later this week. I’m not familiar with UC which I think is Universal Credit but the government says if it was due on the 25th it’ll be paid today (24th) or New Years Eve (31st).

There’s nothing broken with the bacs system.

Either your interpretation of it or your payment dates are wrong.

If you’re paid 25th December, it is (by all standards) paid the working day before, which would be 24th December, and then with monzo, you’d have been able to access it 23rd December at 4pm.

So if it’s not visible and paid already, you need to check your payslip or benefit statement to understand what date is written there, and then calculate working days (Monday to Friday, not including bank holidays or Christmas Day or Boxing Day).

If it’s not been paid following the above knowledge, your provider needs to inform you. None of this is down to monzo.

Monzo don’t predict, they work on fact.

The bacs system (benefits and wages) are commonly paid by bacs on a 3 working day system.

Day 1: data upload by the sending business
Day 2: visibility of the payment from the receiving bank
Day 3: pay day when most banks pay it into your account

Monzo/Revolut and some others can see on day 2 the payment has been uploaded by the payee business (employer or benefits office).

That allows them to pay out the money after 4pm because it’s difficult or usually impractical for the payer to withdraw the payment after this time (though not impossible).

So if it’s not been paid to you, or you’re not able to collect it by now, take it up with the paying business to understand why - do note, the paying business generally does not have a clue how bacs works or how monzo pays early.
