I had a cheque from someone and I sent it to Monzo like I have done any other time. Only this one did not go into my account. Apprantly according to the sender… Monzo had banked it twice!

Can’t see how it’s possible to bank it twice when it’s 1 cheque with a unique cheque number

It’s possible it was banked twice (that’s down to the persons bank who gave you the cheque to sort, as they authorised it), but Monzo would only deposit it in your account if you had your account number etc on the back of the cheque ?
And that is why I take cheques to mainstream banks.
And why I realise how lucky I am to have half a dozen or so within walking distance.
