Looks like a cheque imaging feature (“payments_pay_cheques_in_app”) is imminent.
Wow.
Looks like a cheque imaging feature (“payments_pay_cheques_in_app”) is imminent.
Wow.
There’s a cost of living crisis, please don’t break me!
I get the feeling this is through really gritted teeth.
They thought cheques were going to disappear faster, and this feature would be unnecessary. But it got to the point where they were one of the only major banks not offering a tech solution to an old problem, so they have basically been forced into it.
Certainly good news though!
Gritted teeth, head-in-the-sand, laziness, however you want to tag it, it is still a highly voted for feature and one that seems to be in the works. Kudos to if it is - it’s one more feature that other banks can’t claim
doesn’t have in the competitive-sell arena.
Quite the opposite for me.
I think it’s just a feature to add to their portfolio vs actually going to be widely beneficial or earn loads of revenue.
will I be able to close my starling account soon?!
Only when paying in cash at the Post Office is a thing!
paypoint just about works for me, tho I do usually have to tell the shop staff how to do it EVERY time…
Nah, it’s cheque not check.
And the US is much more open about what they’re doing - it’d be on the roadmap if they were working on it.
Not to mention that the Product Person said that it was coming to the UK!
By clipping it you missed the point!
It’s in the backlog (“stretch goals”), rather than the “in progress” section - which is where it’d be if they were working on it.
I’ve not kept up with what the US are doing but it doesn’t mention if it’s digital cheque depositing or if they currently have no manual way to deposit cheques at all currently and that’s what they’re looking to add?
I don’t think that’s quite right. It looks like each ticket has the date that it was created on, rather than when it was moved.
Here is the ticket for automatic salary sorter which says updated five months ago, but is now in the completed column as it was only shipped recently.
I wonder how much lag there is updating that list, but certainly this feature is going nowhere until the actual registration changes
probably won’t change till Monzo ship something to real people
Pretty sure the online lists will be one of the last things to change. Remember when folk were seeing CASS in the Chase app but it wasn’t on the register yet?
The thing to look for is actually on Companies House:
Banks have to “buy into” the company that Pay UK have set up for cheque imaging. You’ll see similar charges for things like faster payments, so seeing when that charge lands is a firm indicator that cheque imaging is on its way. I can’t quite remember how long it took between seeing the charge on Starling’s Companies House entry and the feature going live, but I think it was anywhere between around a week and a month.
So according to the latest teardown, it looks like cheque imaging is finally on its way. Better late than never.
We better all use it after this!
How many complaints will there be about the cheque imaging limit being too low?
“Why can you only scan cheques up to £500? (or £1000 etc.,). Lloyds has a £5000 limit.”
Is there any reason why that would be the case?
To test it with less users?
Businesses are more likely to have cheques than regular customers?
I think if it does start business only, it won’t be for long.
