I want to hear some feedback about using it for day to day banking

Surely a salary payment doesn’t show a day delayed?

I can confirm that a salary payment took a while to come in.

I like the idea of one day using an account like that where I don’t need to check owt :sunglasses:

How long

Took me around 12 hours after it was originally sent.

Surprised that’s the case for BACS!

I received an invoice today listing a Cater Allen account for payment - think that may be the first time I’ve seen it in the wild.

Shocked to see a Cater Allen Topic to be honest.

I have worked with them for a few clients at work who bank with them and they can be a real pain to work with sometimes. There systems are impossibly slow and you can be stuck on the phone with them for ages just trying to do something simple.

Last time back in Jersey I looked into Cater Allen personal accounts they had a minimum balance of something like £100K or maybe even more. But looks like that’s gone now.

Part of me would consider an account with them but having worked with them. It’s a no from me!

There was a period where a load of the card collectors on the forum opened Cater Allen (among other faux private banks) accounts for the cards as they have little/no requirements.

Oh wow!

Wish I was here for that. In my experience looking into private banks and things they seem to be very strict on requirements and ensuring you deposit a lot of money.

Indeed. I think if you were after the card for your collection then fair enough. It in itself didn’t make you ant richer….

It wasn’t hidden when I joined in 2020 or thereabouts - you just had the option to choose your ‘home’ branch, and if you picked Fleet Street (at the time, I think it was actually my closest RBS branch) then the account was opened with Child & Co branding. As you say the form remained hidden for a little while after but is now long gone.

Do they just allocate you to one of the central branches now?

When I opened my current NatWest account a few months ago I got Peterborough (my local branch and a pretty splendid building)

Interesting. So Drummond is still, in principle, possible. Just quote a home or work address where it’s the closest branch? Used to work just round the corner from it.

Is Drummonds actually still a active bank though?

Yes. Apparently so.

They do offer private banking services within their actual branch.

Similar setup to Child and Co. You’d either have a standard RBS select account if you applied via the online form.

Alternatively, if you applied in branch and qualified their criteria (which as far as I know is undisclosed) you’d receive private banking services.

They used to provide a different sort code for people who applied via the online form and recieved standard RBS services, opposed to those who qualified.

National Lottery used to open an account there for people who won the UK Lottery.

The only way now to apply for an account is to visit the branch and schedule a meeting with a Banker to discuss your needs etc.

bit tricky now - the branch closed in 2022.
