Is there any update on this? Tried to get cash back a few days ago but didn’t get the option. I had to use my Barclays card in the end.
I know from working there in the past they are trying to phase out cashback as it’s costs then to order the cash and then fill up the self service tolls. Where as they are paid a commission by the ATM provider, Asda is Barclays if I remember.
They stopped staff asking at the normal tills but can still do it if you ask. Self service till will require a software change so not been actioned yet I guess but could go at any time.
It still doesn’t work but I gave up.
Also, my local Asda now charges for cashback (I think it’s 10 or 20 percent)
Could you hypothetically get cash back abroad and it not count as an ATM withdrawal as foreign currency?
Yup. This has been confirmed in the past.
International acceptance of cash back is very limited though.

I had this issue as ASDA Middleton Park in Aberdeen yesterday.
