Thanks for the reassuring responses, everyone. I’ll have other cards along just in case but it sounds like I shouldn’t bump into the same sort of trouble, then.

I only ever use someone’s name at the end of a sentence if I’m telling them off. Is that what you’re doing, James / Liam / Chris?*

Anecdotally, I’ve not had any acceptance issues long since the pre-paid days.
I’ve only had one scenario just after it became a current account, and that was someone not wanting to accept it for a tab.
I’m full monzo (so much so that we brought our house through our monzo joint account) and I have never had an acceptance issue.
I reckon any card acceptance issues with Monzo are extremely, very rare indeed when put into the context of the number of transactions processed.
To our American friend wanting to visit the UK, I suspect you’ll have no issues at all. But bring a backup just in case (relevant regardless of primary bank). You’ll be fine. (Also, please bring sunshine)

I opened this as a genuine question, perhaps my card is broken as people have said (I will order a new one) but it saddens me to see how virulent this thread has gotten
As the OP I feel it only right to ask that we all be kind, I simply wanted to raise some issues that I personally had had, to see if others had experienced the same?

I’m pleased to say that I’ve never experienced any of these acceptance issues.
Besides a couple of (generally unused) credit cards on Apple Pay, I don’t carry anything other than my monzo card in my pocket, and it always seems to work just fine.
I don’t think you have any reason to be concerned I’ve been using Monzo for a couple of years and only had the odd blip, but never been left unable to pay for something.
To be honest it’s nice to know that Monzo take extra security measures compared to other banks.
