I think this needs fine tuning. I like the newsletters and new features information I’m sent. I don’t like the advertising…
Opt out of the marketing emails then?
I think the £10 incentive is great. Although it would be better as £5 each and maybe £10 for an individual switching from another bank.
Defiantly an improvement on golden tickets.
Personally I don’t think £10 isn’t enough of an incentive to CASS. Monzo are hoping that people trial it, realise they want it and CASS for free.
It’s a good plan when you think of it, I wonder how many people switch banks yearly to take advantage of the 100’s of pounds on offer, only to be disappointed by a crappy, same as last time, bank.
True dude, although I am not sure Monzo need to offer much of an incentive to tempt a switch.
Yep. I agree.
They will need to though in the future as other banks catch up.
Being sent an email telling me about new features and what’s happened during the month is different to being sent emails / notifications telling a me to send a link to a friend. At the moment you can’t choose which ones you get and which ones you don’t. It’s all or nothing.
Switched off the Marketing toggle in settings but the marketing message on payment screen is still there
My two bits is, never EVER use push notifications for marketing. Ever. Just no. Any app that does it gets all permissions revoked on my devices.
An email is enough, and I don’t like it in my banking feed but if I’ve left marketing permissions on (which I never remember having an option to disable, but will now, it shouldn’t require customer service communication)
I’ve given out 8 golden tickets, and I shared this promo as well, but it’s too invasive to use those methods.
I don’t really see the issue to be honest. Marketing is all about pushing something in front of somebody’s eyes hundreds of times, in the hope that the 2-3 times they notice it will be enough to grab their attention and get an action. So you’ve spotted that Monzo are giving new users £10 in three different places (via email, feed and payments section), well, so what?
The email and feed notifications were likely one-offs and the item in your payments section is no real worse than the awful Willy Wonka Golden Ticket nonsense that was there before.
The main complaint seems to be that some people who are highly engaged with Monzo (including in the Community) have been told about something you already knew about. Well, guess what, lots of other people are highly disengaged and if you want them to know about something you need to tell them multiple times.
The points of campaigns like these are precisely to reach the disengaged. If they only wanted you and me to know they’d just mention it in an obscure thread or do a blog post or mention it on Twitter. Actions like these are pointless as we’re already highly engaged and actively taking part.
I would say the second point is not completely accurate, this comment sums it up better for me:
While we do sometimes move very quickly, I should point out that we built the Marketing toggle before this forum thread started.
App releases take about a week from “code freeze”, where we stop making changes, and being released into the App Store. So we can’t get changes to you all in less time than that!
I’m curious if you built the tool before the forum started. I’m wondering why it wasn’t implemented before the marketing campaign? Just curious that is all. Keep up the good work and hope you have a lovely Christmas
It was. I’ve had it turned off for months.
lending promotions turned off in settings ?
What does that even do? As I don’t seem to get any even if it’s turned off
I notice there’s a lending promotions toggle which I have turned off and a marketing toggle which is on. Would it be better to have a toggle for all promotions (overdrafts, loans, savings accounts, referral fees etc) and one for newsletters.
By combining it into one it toggle basically means if I want to stay up to date with what’s happening with Monzo I have to get the advertising too.
No the “News and updates” toggle, because I get all of that here/blog.
Its only existed in the app one week
Then I’m definitely getting confused
Backs out the room.
