Just got me a hot new LG G5 OLED, my favourite show is Friends and while the show looks great in 1080p I want to watch the whole thing with my BFF but before paying to upgrade from standard Netflix to the Premium option can somebody check if this show is available in 4K HDR blah blah blah? I know it is available like this on other services such as MAX in the US but it’s really silly that you can’t see what shows/movies this format is/isn’t offered on without having already subscribed to Premium which also makes me suspect maybe not as much is out there as Netflix want you to think.
Hi babes
It still says HD on a 4k plan so at least some are not available in 4k, maybe the later seasons are, the only way I’m aware you can check the actual quality is on desktop but I don’t have a 4k one right now.
Generally anything Netflix made is in 4k (animation can be 1080p) they do have other stuff but it depends on the licensing.
Also prime has 4k and apple tv+ might be worth a go for a months trial as they have a decent bit rate.
Foundation and for all mankind look pretty epic.
It was shot on 35mm film, which means they’ve been able to rescan it and remaster it - that’s why the version currently available is HD and widescreen (which wasn’t the case when it was first broadcast).
I didn’t realise this until I looked just now, but WBD released a 4K version last year. It’s available to stream on MAX in the US, but looks like if you want it in the UK, you need to shell out for the blu-ray box set.
Yes there are native 4K versions sourced from 35mm, not upscaled. A bit frustrating how difficult Netflix make it to get what should be such basic information and in this case would have got me to pay more for a few months. Ah well, thanks anyway all x
