Can I get salary paid into monzo bank if the name on the bank is different?
Hi @Ashley38 & welcome
I’m not sure what you mean here - but your salary can be paid into Monzo if you give your employer the Sort Code and Account number allocated to your Monzo account. Once the employer enters that into their payroll system, you should be paid directly into your provided Monzo account.
Thanks David … actually i had issue with my bank so I used my friend’s monzo account to receive my salary but I haven’t get it since then
This barely makes sense and it still seems like a terrible idea.
Why can’t you get your salary yourself?
Payroll procedure at work is to do an account name verification check. Some people are paid into a joint account, but if the account was in a different name completely I’d be surprised if they’d set it up. All kinds of implications spring to mind.
What kind of issue?
Did your friend receive the salary into their Monzo account?
If what you’ve said above is true, your friend now needs to pay you what they received into their bank account from your employer.
In a previous job I used to see this ALL the time
It depends on their payroll system and whether it’s checking the name
But the DWP allow it…
If you had a problem with whichever bank you’re with, surely it would be easier to just open another bank account rather than be paid into a friend’s account and get them to send you the money? How long would you be expecting to do this for?
In before “Monzo closed my friend’s account for no reason”
This is a payroll query.
As part of Modern Slavery detection/prevention, most payroll do name verification to make sure the employee name matches name on bank account details provided. One of the reasons some ask for bank statements or some kind of proof from the bank that the account you want to be linked is in your name and belongs to you.
They do not want anyone to be in charge of your money.
If I may ask, why don’t you use your own account details? Are you hiding something? What are you trying to get away with?
Edit:
Could be genuine reasons such as bankruptcy or fraud preventing them having their own bank account.
I do believe that, even if you are declare bankrupt, you can still have a basic bank account, you just can’t have credit lines for obvious reasons
A possible reason I can think of is something I heard from a new colleague at my work who moved here from Canada on a 1 year Youth Mobility visa. She said a lot of UK high street banks refuse to open accounts for non-citizens on temporary visas. Then when she found one that accepted her visa she had trouble with the proof of address requirements.
So she couldn’t get paid until she had a UK bank account, but couldn’t open a bank account until she had proof of address like a tenancy agreement and utility bills, but the agency expected a deposit from a UK bank account.
She ended up using Wise and the multi-currency account to get a UK sort code and account number she could use to get paid.
Ironically I think a fintech bank like Monzo or Revolut probably would have worked for her too.
It’s not as unusual a situation as some would think. However, there is a fallback option for the bank. For my now OH, the Woolwich branch manager called round and saw that she was living in the house.
I imagine with fewer branches these days, they’d be less than keen to do that.
Oh wow that’s commitment
While true, most banks will still reject you unless you ask about a basic account, and even that is likely limited.
Barclays and Nationwide are common accounts for bankruptcy types.
