Can I get my new card delivered abroad *** Not to Germany ****

But most people ordering a card wouldn’t be aware of the need to do this, so the cards would be returned. It’s not an impossible problem to solve, but is this really what we want Monzo spending money on for the benefit of what must be an infinitesimal number of people?

Probably not. As I said, though: there is no need for Monzo to do anything. It’s just the customer ordering their card who needs to provide their address correctly. And if you spend more than just a casual holiday in Germany you will know that you need to provide a c/o address if your name isn’t on the mailbox, or your host will tell you when you ask them for the address.

Which is strange because Austria aren’t on Monzo’s do not send list and I’ve also had lots of things with my name on successfully delivered to addresses I don’t live at in Austria without anything being returned to sender, but I guess things just work differently there.

I guess it’s possible for people to live in the UK but also have a second residence in Germany (and thus have their name on the letterbox). It would be nicer if support actually told customers the reason why they can’t send cards to Germany rather than the standard ‘computer says no’ response and then made exceptions if their circumstances meant they would be able to successfully receive the card.

I’m not certain on this, but I think our internal guidance just gives a list of which countries we post to, the reasons for not being able to delivery are varied and in some cases quite complicated. I only know the issue with Germany because I’m familiar with the German postal system and this particular issue at Monzo.

Sometimes the safer option is just to share that we can’t do something, rather than giving misleading information (as in, somebody gives the wrong reason, somebody misunderstands the information etc). There’s an awful lot to learn if you work on frontline at Monzo (I did a few hours on chat the other day and there’s a lot I’ve forgotten and a lot I didn’t know about!) so sometimes we minimise the level of detail people are expected to know.

If somebody was in desperate need then I’m sure we’d do our best to get it sorted for the customer. We wouldn’t want anybody to be stranded - the fact is that most people take more than one card with them and would have an alternative with them. So the work required to make this happen isn’t proportional to the needs of our customer base.

Sadly we have to prioritise lots of the things we do!

That’s at least somewhat reassuring!

That will cost thousands. I just thought I’ll test it and from my location to a random Germany building is £1,671
I don’t think anyone will pay that for delivery plus I’ll feel sorry for the driver who has to travel for hours there and back.
