I am unclear as to whether I can apply for a card which I can give to my son who is travelling abroad, he is 14 years old and therefore unable to apply for a card himself.
Please can somebody clarify?

Hi, I’ve asked too, but not yet. Maybe when the full current accounts come along towards the end of Q1 this year.
The current prepaid card that is being issued has an 18 year old limit. A. It annoying as I wanted one for my son too who is travelling this year and next and is 16.
There is no name on the card so how would anyone know?
It’s against the terms of service.
In reality you can but it would be breaking the rules
In most instances, your son probably won’t have an issue when it comes to merchants accepting the payments but…
This would be my concern too. I’m not sure that the customer support team’s ability to assist your son wouldn’t be compromised by Monzo’s duty not to provide their cards to under 18 year olds + the fact that in some cases, I expect they’ll only be able to disclose information / provide support to the account holder.
@anon71399110 Hey Simon Our service is currently for 18+ only.
Whilst in theory you could set up an account for your son using your own details, there would be complications when it comes to completing the additional identity verification required to lift withdrawal and spending limits (particularly if he has plans to use the card abroad).
Possibly one for the (far) future. As we move more and more to a cashless society would be good to have sub accounts for dependants that are managed by the main account holder.
You could move money from the main account to a dependants account and let them have their own card, while keeping an overview on their spending and helping them learn good budgetary practice. They can then transfer to full account at 16/18.
I don’t see if as an immediate concern for Monzo really but, selfishly as a father of two, I’d like it. Would certainly help to see what the reason was for the constant requests for more money!
My children (13 and 16) are travelling to Europe in a few weeks. Am I able to either:
I’m just not sure whether the cards come with my name on or not. And whether it matters or not.
Thanks, Edward
Hi Edward,
Hopefully the above posts answer your question so I’ve moved your topic here. If there’s anything that you’re not sure about, please feel free to ask
That’s perfect, thanks.
