Not sure what thread it is but venting issues has happened a few times with bulb on here. For me it seems pretty clear cut so not too worried. May be a bit annoying if they make the direct debit to take the money before it is sorted. But I see that as my current worst case…!
Remember a few years ago when everyone on here was holding up Bulb as the Monzo of the energy sector?
I remember that time - and Monzo & Bulb had a ‘relationship’ which interested me but I had my eye on Octopus (coming from Scottish Power -> NW England, anything would be better) and eventually switched to
Since then, Octopus seems to have gone from strength to strength, but you never know…
I use London Power, which use the Octopus billing system.
wins hands down in my book, just for the technology they use for billing, agile, Go etc etc.
Bulb is pretty much just some static player with no innovation at all. I’ll be starting my transfer to
now Bulb have paid my exit fees.
That’s the only use Bulb had to me
Was going to get my smart meters fitted in 10 but cancelled it as looking at changing to either
or people energy, rather have the Mtrs exchange with new provider rather than change mtrs and have goosed readings
This is exactly why I left Bulb and moved my family members accounts also.
It’s great if you never have an issue but there’s times like this - especially with billing - where they make massive errors and they don’t see it as an issue.
The two meter read thing is actually fairly familiar, I had the same issue with Bulb but they’d set my meter to be 3 rate and then didn’t collect the meter readings from it at all.
Such a mess. Whatever their smart metering system is - it’s crap.
I was curious about Octupus actually after seeing many people posting about them but they seem a bit expensive.
Maybe you have to pay a bit more to get the better service? I’m Bulb atm and apart from IHD disconnecting after a power cut have had no issues. Will have a look at octopus tariff anyway. R-
Ditto. R-
There is no (official)
app for Joe Public, the best way to access on a mobile is to use the
web interface.
That’s the beauty of
though you can download a 3rd party app or use a web interface to access your information through the API.
Saves them having to spend time developing stuff like this when there’s others who will happily come up with stuff
Plenty Agile tools available an all
Not for Android. I’ll edit my previous post.
I’m with
and have had zero issues with them. For what it’s worth.
They also have a community page (community.bulb.co.uk) where you might get more luck connecting to their Support team for weird and unusual issues.
I’ve found Bulb to be reliable, and cheap enough vs supplier before. Maybe I’ll revisit the supplier if/when I next move, same with the Smart meters.
From what I can see, both
and
have 100% Green Electricity, and both seem to carbon offset for Gas. Though
seem to have more projects and initiatives in the works for Green Energy. ![]()
I just looked for tariffs of
to see if I could make a saving. Theres a 0.1 pence difference per unit of energy, in
favour for
and a 0.2 pence difference per unit of energy, in
favour, for ![]()
I last did that comparison @BritishLibrary about 6 months ago. I knew it was close. Not worth changing at present especially given practically identical green credentials. R-
I’ve only been with Octopus for a month but I’m so impressed with the api access and app ecosystem.
Its finally easy for me to really easily understand my usage and make meaningful changes to reduce my costs.
I found a free app this morning which allows easy comparison of all their tariffs. A few clicks on the web later and I’m going live on Octopus Go from midnight tonight.
Then you log in and use the website
I would see it as them choosing to optimise their resources where they can make the best focus - they seem to be doing the most in the space of “green energy infrastructure”.
As @michaelw90 says, their website is mobile supported, so it doesn’t really ‘need’ an app.
I like the approach they have from the reading I’ve done, but can see why it might not be everyones cup of tea.
Their mobile site more than does the job. Personally I generally prefer the web over custom apps unless they’re really good.
I would say there’s a big difference between trusting your energy consumption data to a third party app and your banking info.
I also wouldn’t be able to leverage the API myself (without some research) but I’m happy to “risk” using third party apps in this instance.
