I voted remain, and passionately so. Separatism just doesn’t work, and I know many wonderful people from the EU who live here and contribute wonderful things to this country.

Furthermore, whilst there certainly are intelligent people capable of clearly explaining their Leave choice, that doesn’t change the fact that Leave was hijacked by ignorant xenophobic white nationalist racists, Farage and the UKIP lot. I’m a third generation mixed race Indian descendent of immigrants, and multiple second and third generation members of my family were racially abused in the days following the referendum. All of us born and raised here! Being told to get out of the country we’re actually from, by Neanderthals waving flags around and stinking of beer. Totally ridiculous.

The ultimate facepalm moment was when I saw someone who voted Leave interviewed on TV. When asked why, they said “all these immigrants coming here and taking our jobs”.

The reporter said “So, have you been in a situation where you’ve applied for a job and found that it’s been given to an immigrant?”

The reply was a very sheepish “Um, no, but that’s probably what would happen”

You couldn’t make it up.

Voted remain and not changing it now!

It is an incredible racial problem. I’m European Spanish but I’m as white as a piece of paper (classic Scottish tan). If I kept my mouth shut they wouldn’t have said a single word to me after the referendum just because I look “british enough”. Ludicrous.

My accent would probably give me away lol

I’d vote Remain again in a heartbeat. I hope many more people would too, because the Leave campaign was built on nothing but lies and misinformation.

I’d also vote Yes again in a heartbeat in a second Scottish referendum (which we absolutely deserve to have given that every single promise the No campaign made was a lie, but that’s another issue :man_shrugging:).

A bit over the top to be honest. There are legitimate and good reasons why people voted for Brexit - 17.4 million people voted that way. It’s also entirely viable to love Europe whilst being against the EU. Not helpful.

Proudly voted Remain and would do so again.

This is the part I’d have to disagree on.

Like yourself, I voted remain. But I also voted No in the 2014 referendum. I identify as being Scottish/British and as well as an Irish citizen (another discussion  )

Nope I voted remain and everyday this sideshow goes on it reinforces my stance. It was too narrow a victory to be taking us down this rabbit hole and Cameron should never have called one anyway.

I just don’t think people necessarily understood what leaving all that entails and what the actual consequences of it would be. The project fear moniker was a big mistake, as it served to undermine the legitimacy of the remain arguments.

Surprisingly he was in favor of remain. If he had let all residents (eu citizens) vote it would have been a clear remain result obviously. Never understood why he didn’t go for it

A completely fair opinion to have!

I would challenge the implication that my support for Scottish independence has anything to do with identity (although I’ve never identified as British), but in the interests of keeping things on-topic, maybe that’s a discussion for another time

I voted remain, and probably still would…

We’ll always have some issues with the EU, the UK were late to the party, already had the Commonwealth and always wanted some kind of special treatment (keeping our own currency for starters)

I’m an avid Remainer and I would definitely vote that way again if the chance arises!

Why? It’s a valid topic and it’s bound to affect our finances in one way or another.

I agree with you that it’s a valid topic, and it’s also something that will affect our finances (although, we really have no idea if it’ll be good or bad).

My only concern would be the tendency for passionate threads to… escalate.

If a thread about overdrafts gets locked… Heaven knows how this one will survive!

But, yes, I would vote the same way again :joy:

Voted remain, would definitely still vote remain.

I’m actually ashamed of my country at the moment. The division, the nastiness, shortsightedness, xenophobia, racism (from a significant proportion - I’m not saying all Brexit voters are racist, I understand that there were many other reasons - but I think it has to be acknowledged that it was definitely a thing).

I strongly believe that leaving the EU is a massive backwards move. It’s the stupidest thing this country has ever done.

I applied for (and got) an Irish passport (my dad was born in Belfast) after the referendum and my wife is currently applying for a Dutch passport (her mum is Dutch). So that at least if we have kids we can pass it down and they can enjoy the same benefits as we have.

I’m keeping a close eye on it. If anything crops up I’ll be sure to flag any inappropriate behaviour. If it gets so bad then I will request the topic be closed.
