Biometric Unlocking

There are tonnes of options available, depending on how cautious you want to be.

A 4 digit PIN is more than enough, and your money is fully protected. That said, if you want to prepare for extreme edge cases, even zombie apocalypse level scenarios, you absolutely can. You can hide the app, avoid banking in public, enable your device’s built-in protection features, and explore the advanced security settings in the Monzo app. There are plenty of tools available, and it’s totally up to you how you want to use them.

I do get where you’re coming from, but the inability to set a longer backup password feels like a minor issue when you take all of the above into account.

This is an innovative idea but I had to turn it off as 90% of the time it wouldn’t work as ‘couldn’t find’ my location to compare to my saved ones

There will always be edge-cases, but 3 options are available. Using just one of the 3 is good. Using two is on another level. Using all 3 is nuclear-bunker-tackle. In addition to PIN/biometrics too.

Shame that the animation is ugly and the interaction with the logo screen is clunky.

I was just prompted with this today. I could have sworn I was already using biometrics to unlock the app anyway, only now I seem to be prompted to do it more often and with a full-screen padlock animation.

I’d noticed some of my friends have had the padlock animation before when I didn’t, so I presume it’s been a phased roll out.

I find the animation very unpleasant. I’d specifically turned animations off in my phone’s accessibility settings and it’s disappointing that Monzo aren’t respecting this.

It also means it’s slightly slower to see my account details, which is a shame.

Anyone stuck with a persistent “add extra security” message at the top of the app? I have biometrics turned on and have deleted and reinstalled but I cannot get rid of the message :frowning:

I was, I couldn’t dismiss it either, nor did it go if I clicked it. Eventually it went away.

The wife and I were both just recently prompted by this, despite already unlocking with biometrics so the only thing that has changed is the addition of a useless unlocking animation.

Please can there be an option to turn this off at least?

Haven’t had this notification. But what I’ve noticed is that my app logged me out, when I logged back in, Face ID isn’t required all the time. Checked FAQs and if you authenticate then you don’t have to do authenticate for the next 5 minutes to unlock the app. Personally, I think 5 minutes is too long, would like to see this changed so that everytime you open the app it’s asks for authentication.

Long press the Monzo app icon > Require Face ID. Done.
