Great Britain - Personal
I’d love to see the internal meetings about these results at Lloyds/Natwest/HSBC etc. These new guys have just appeared and now top the charts.
Do they care? Are they interested in improving or do they make enough money that it doesn’t matter about a survey result as they’ll still gain customers?
What does surprise me is how well Nationwide does in the app catagory. It doesn’t have many of the newer features that many other banks have but still does well. Personally, I do really like the app. It is easy to use and I’ve never had any issues with it.
That’s probably the most important part. And most people aren’t like us lot trying different banks/apps etc, so if the one they have, they like and it works, they’ll be happy.
Let’s hope Barclays updates the table on their website this time CMA Letter to Barclays about one breach of the Retail Banking Order - GOV.UK
(Fairly sure they already have, but bit of a stupid thing not to update last time).
Most people probably only use one banking app, so as long as that one works well, they’d be unaware of snazzy features of other apps I suppose.
I have opened a few accounts at different banks (and have then closed them) and I’m still happy with the Nationwide and Santander apps. Both are fairly basic (but Santander have had a few updates recently) but both work well. I do agree that that is what most users will be interested in.
Yes they do. I know a couple of people with Starling accounts that they use for travel
I had a nationwide account right from being a child. Absolutely loved the app. The first to get a modern design and has been consistent since.
Starling now kicking themselves for not being named ‘AAAStarling’ so they can be listed first in case of a tie
I think there’s probably decimal places to that % that they aren’t showing as Lloyds are above Halifax on the same percentage.
The full methodology says “Where providers score equally in terms of the percentages based on whole numbers these will be shown as scoring equally, but in order to create a position in a list they will be
positioned according to their percentage calculated by using two or more decimal points.”
Thanks for clarifying that
They don’t (yet) meet the required threshold of customer numbers in Northern Ireland to be large enough to be included in the survey.
They do operate there, though.

@Jays6 It’s going a bit off topic to be discussing Nationwide’s app in too much detail, but I have to say I find it relatively poor.
The feature-set is basic and making payments is difficult due to the requirement for a card reader.
Santander, on the other hand, is basic but works well despite being simple (better than Nationwide).
How come Tesco are still on the list, i was under the impression all current account were wound down?
They were, and they finally all closed at the end of November.
However, the survey uses data from the previous 12 months (roughly) so it is likely that Tesco Bank will also feature in the August 2022 edition, before finally falling out of the rankings in February 2023! It is a bit silly, really, since they have closed; they should have just filtered Tesco Bank out of these rankings.
Perhaps by then the Clydesdale/Yorkshire rebrand into Virgin Money will also be complete, so they can stop surveying some Clydesdale customers, some Yorkshire customers and some Virgin Money customers to create the Virgin Money result.
I predict that Starling will make an appearance in the Northern Ireland rankings by then, too - they can’t be far off the required customer base by now.
