Banking on iOS 17 & 18

Hey everyone! It’s that time again!

The first beta of iOS 17 should be available tonight, after the WWDC keynote.

Historically, finance apps have rarely worked on beta software, but going by recent trends, as long as you don’t bank with any HSBC group brand, you should be good to go. For the more cautious amongst you please wait until your apps are confirmed working.

This post is a wiki so if you’re using the iOS 17 beta and know any apps to be working or not working please update the wiki. Apps are categorised and listed alphabetically. If I’ve missed any, please add them in the appropriate place.

This is a cross-community effort and is by no means exhaustive. I’ll be working to collate reports both from here, Fintech Forum, and the 9to5FS discord, as well as the google sheet Macrumors usually create.

PS: If you are interested in downloading the Public Beta, which will be available later, you can register by going to beta.apple.com - and don’t forget to back up before installing.

Is it worth including the apps that allow you to monitor your credit records, e.g. ClearScore, Credit Karma and Experian?

Good luck tonight iOS :crossed_fingers:

*100% assumed results. YMMV. Sequence shortened. Stuff can go down as well as up. Small print applies. Of the 100 people surveyed, all of them walked away.

While I appreciate some good humour but I don’t want to take these posts off topic – they’ve been very helpful in the past. Not sure what version Android is on or what the banking apps tend to do there but if there’s an Android beta version I’m sure @N26throwaway wouldn’t mind if you copied the Wiki and created one for the green robot stuff.

To stay on topic, I’ve added Fineco to the OP. When I get home I’ll whack the encrypted backup on and go to town with the beta (if I can).

Maybe!

I don’t think we’ve ever included them before but if you think they’d be useful to add, then perhaps they are!

I’m not overly familiar with credit record apps. Do you know if there are any more besides those three?

Added Lumio. I’ll bite the bullet and install iPadIOS 17 public onto the iPad and report back on the inevitable crashing of HSBC that it’ll cause

Yes - if I install it on anything it’ll be my iPad. I’ve already installed the HSBC app for testing.

I’ve always considered them to be part of my financial health, so it would be good to know if they work properly.

I don’t think that there are any other UK CRA apps, although there are some websites, but they should be fine presuming that the available web browsers are working.

Thanks!

I’ve added them just below the money management apps!

As ever I’ll wait till beta 4 or 5, and I thank all of you for being willing to take the bullets of the early versions.

That had me cackling at work

I don’t get it…

(Or is this just a dig at iOS?)

Android 14 is already in Beta and it’s assumed they all work because Android doesn’t change all that much under the hood between major releases, like iOS seems to

It’s not that iOS changes that dramatically, it’s the developers tend to just outright block their apps from working on beta software. HSBC being most famous for it.

If they’re doing that on iOS, I’d be incredibly surprised if they’re not doing the same on android. Especially given their explanation for it is one of security, the same as they block use on jailbroken devices.

I see! I was mostly under the impression this is more the app developer side over Apple so not really their fault.

I was only curious as I don’t think this thread should get into an iOS vs Android thread or it’ll get very full very fast!

I appreciate the almost clinical aspect of these threads. Not opinions but good solid factual items.

(Aware of the irony I’m putting an opinion here :joy:)

I think @N26throwaway is more correct in this case. I just know that FD, Monzo and Natwest work on my Pixel 4a 5g running Android 14 beta

Thank you - I’m not the best at formatting text so didn’t want to mess your work up :slightly_smiling_face:

Monzo is working on iOS 17!

Edit: Updated a few more, some I have been logged out of but can log back in.

Updated a whole bunch of apps. HSBC opens but I’m not signed in so daren‘t say that it works.

Kroo and Co-Op also opening and working as expected
