It will, because you can log in from another phone and the data persists without any transfer functionality in the app.

I ask because you will be able to unlock the boot loader hopefully and then maybe install a custom rom like lineage OS to update the android version beyond what is officially supported by the manufacturer.
The good thing about buying a new phone these days is most manufacturers like Samsung, will offer up to 7 years of software updates
I used to put custom ROMs on my old Samsung phones to bring them up to speed with android versions

Maintaining support for old versions is the bane of any smartphone app development team. There has to be a cut-off at some point. It is disappointing that they dont match legacy bank features (e.g. direct-debit) on their webapp. I naively expected the smartpohone app had the supra-legacy bank (Monzo-only) features and the web app would support common retail bank services. I can only presume the fall-off of customers at the support window (l)edge must be minimal. It would make sense (to me) that the web app at least give the total balance in the bank account, not the current account minus the pots. I will suddenly not be able to know how much money I have with Monzo (bank?).
Android 11 reached EoL in 2024 and Android 12 2025.

Yeah, that’s the idea of custom roms, for example you can get android 12 on the Samsung galaxy S2. Which came out in 2011. The last official update for that phone was android 4.1.2.
And you get met with this device is rooted blah blah
Which is very easily hidden with Magisk, plus I don’t think Monzo have any root detection, at least I haven’t come across any
The obvious answer here is for OP to buy a new phone, but that really does depend if they have the money and considering they came here asking if being unable to access the Monzo app will have any effect on anything it would suggest they don’t have the money to spare

Thank you for saying this. People stating the (hitherto stated) obvious and engaging in a thread they obviously aren’t interested in, is not what came for and isn’t community in spirit IMHO. I didn’t know i could get an unsupported version of Android on my phone. I am migrating to a fairfone with Ubuntu OS as I want out of Google’s surveillance overreach and I’m not an Apple fan. I’m not in the market for a new Android. I am a developer who understands how easy it is to add features to a webapp compared to a smartfone app across devices and OS versions. I’m suprised how little Monzo’s offers, it’s below minimum and forces a (very) few but perhaps loyal customers to flee and move their banking elsewhere. It is a different attitude to how legacy banks traditionally operate but not a welcome one, again IMHO. I’m not coming here cause I’m bored and and/or want a brief feeling of superiority over anonymous avatars. I’m here to see if anyone’s like-minded or interested in what I’m having to deal with as a fellow Monzo customer.
I don’t think Monzo’s app works without google play services, which Ubuntu OS doesn’t have, though I’ve not heard about it in years

Does anyone have experience of any other Monzo alternative webapps? Revolut for instance? I haven’t ever tried them out.
And Wise have decided that they’re going to let people bank both on their phone and online. Monzo’s gone for the simple route of just being on your phone.
Is there a reason you’re against buying a new phone, or switching to a different bank.
Both Revolut and Starling have great web apps where you can do pretty much everything…however you need the app installed to log in to either of them
