Apple Pay, Monzo Not Recognising Debit Card

Hi

I’m based in Northern Ireland and my main bank account is with Danske bank. I have a Danske Bank Master Card Debit Card setup in Apple pay.

When I try topping up my Monzo card using Apple Pay it wont accept my Danske Bank Master Card Debit Card and states the following, see attached screenshot.

In June in had my previous Danske bank Master Card Debit Card replaced with my current Danske bank Master Card Debit card, prior to the replacement I was able to top up with a Danske bank Master Card Debit Card, which wasn’t mistaken for a Credit Card.

Anyone got any ideas why the Monzo App would be recognising a Master Card Debit Card for a Credit Card?

Just to add, if I were to select Top Up Using a Debit Card and use the same Danske Bank Master Card Debit Card I have no issues. So Im confused why topping up via that option recognises the card as a Debit card but not via Apple pay :-S

Thanks in Advance

Barry

I’ve had this in other apps and it tends to be a problem with Apple Pay itself. Try re-adding the card in your Apple Pay wallet.

Of course it would be easier if you did a bank transfer to your Monzo account though

Hi

I’ve deleted the card from Apple Pay and re added it twice now and I face the same issue :frowning:

A Bank Transfer isn’t always so simple, especially if I’m away from home or no access to a computer. I also can’t do a Bank Transfer from my banking app :frowning:

Thanks

Barry

That sounds like a terrible banking app

To be fair.. Monzo do ask that you top up via bank transfer as doing Apple pay top ups cost them money (so should be for emergencies only).

So if it’s a pain with Danske Bank.. find a new bank?

Hi

I can add money to my Revolut Card, top up my Starbucks Card and add money to my TransferWise card via Apple Pay using my Danske Bank Master Card Debit Card.

It’s even more confusing when I try to do the same with Monzo and it fails as they recognise the card as a credit card :frowning:

Thanks

Barry

Hi

I’ve been banking with Danske Bank for about 20 years. I don’t always like change lol.

Thanks

Danske Bank app is a bit horrible :confounded: Haven’t heard anyone say anything good about it

Doesn’t sound quiet right! Have you had the card for a while, or replaced it recently? Might be worth reach out to the in-chat help, or try removing and readding your card to apple pay. Should be working for the scenarios given

Hi

They have got a newer banking app in the App Store as of a few months ago. It’s still limited at the moment as they not added many features to it yet. You can do some of the basics.

Thanks

Hi

I had the card replaced a few weeks ago due to fraudulent activity on it, I had no issues with it in the past prior to the card change.

I’ve deleted the card from Apple Pay twice and still Face the same issues.

I also can’t top up via Apple Pay on Loot or Starling Bank Apps.

I’m currently speaking with Monzo via in App Chat.

Thanks

Hi

Customer Services have had to refer my case to a specialist as they aren’t quite sure why this is happening.

I’ll keep you updated

Thanks

Hi

Customer services got back to me, they’re not sure either why this issue is happening. If they find an answer to the issue at some point, they will let me know.

Thanks

Hi

I’ve just had an idea, I could be completely wrong. I’ve not used my Danske Bank Card for Apple Pay at a physical terminal, just Apple Pay online. Could that maybe be a reason why I can’t Top Up in App via Apple Pay?

Thanks

Barry

I’d doubt it.

Why not switch to Monzo fully and avoid the hassle :yum:

Got to be worth a try though :woman_shrugging:

Hi

I’m not ready to make the jump to Full Monzo just yet, Danske Bank might not be perfect but I have a £100 interest free overdraft and I get £5 cash back each month.

Thanks

That’s totally understandable, just a suggestion but if there are no requirements you could keep that account open for those features but have you pay moved over to Monzo. That way you can easily transfer money the other way.
