My Apple Pay payments suddenly started getting declined, plenty of money in account, physical card still works but contactless and online Apple Pay payment are all declined. Tried removing card from Apple wallet and add back in but I now can’t add my card back into Apple wallet. Any ideas?
What happens when you try and make a bank transfer?
For some reason the app doesn’t tell you when your account is frozen, though probably not the case if you can use the physical card
As stated, the error is that my Apple Pay with Monzo isn’t working (all my other cards with other banks are still fine). I removed my Monzo card from Apple Pay and tried to re add it which didn’t work. So technically haven’t added any cards in the last 30 days, so can’t be over the limit.
Thanks Jon, you might be right, I just tried to do a small transfer as a test and got a message saying I needed to confirm my identity. Was asked to record a short video as proof of ID… Monzo promptly confirmed it was me. I’ve now just successfully added my Monzo card back into Apple Wallet. Will test the Apple Pay payments are working again when I get a chance. Thanks for your help!
When I was in Spain my card starting declining in shops and for Uber, and when I tried to make a bank transfer I saw a generic error messages, no where in the app indicated any kind of account freeze, and my Apple Pay wasn’t put into the “suspended” state that it is when you freeze your card yourself…
Essentially Monzo don’t communicate the fact in anyway, until you ask them yourself, and then I found out my account was under review which was fixed around 1-2hours later, no questions about any transactions, just thanks for your patience, it’s fixed now - at a guess some payments from friends to split payments for a tour tripped some kind of alarm, as these were the last payments on my account
Yet again - Monzo is the bank to teach the lesson about not having your eggs in one basket - but so far the only bank who has ever taught me that lesson
I’d been at a festival for 4 days making lots of small transactions for food and drinks, so maybe that triggered it, but same as you there was zero notification from Monzo on my account being frozen. I thought it was a problem with Apple Pay as my physical card using chip and pin still worked. Would be nice if they fixed this because unfreezing it was very simple and quick, just didn’t know I needed to. Trying to do a bank transfer was the only thing that triggered the security check. I’m glad they do it, but could be smoother.
Agree with your last point too, I’m glad I have other cards with other banks, it would have been very inconvenient otherwise.
Thanks again for your help, Jon.
