Guys, we know it’s coming. We just don’t know when.
With zero behind the scenes knowledge, I will assert that if Monzo could have released it, they would have.
Out of interest, who do you think will be calling the shots in the relationship between Apple and Monzo?
My assumption is that Monzo will make it available when they’re told they can make it available.
Perhaps. I can’t see either party wanting to hold back though. A lot of money to be made in this game and Apple is just as keen to get into as many banks as they can.
I’m sure there are legitimate reasons for it taking time. I’m sure it has nothing to do with Monzo’s size etc, look at starling.
What I questioned a while back was that boon. by Wirecard had Apple Pay ages ago IRC Monzo were on the wirecard system at some point so why not bring it in then as surely it would have been easier… no answers were given.
Can I take back my comments about the mobile app.
I only realised today that the TestFlight app I was using was redundant! Came as a surprise (in fact there should be a big banner shown in the TestFlight app - “Switch back to the prepaid account app as it now supports the current account”).
What prompted me to do this was a new release of the prepaid app with “pots” - a feature that didn’t seem to be enabled for me despite upgrading the app.
And then I noticed within TestFlight itself, Monzo was no longer listed. What was going on?
I flipped over to the prepaid app and as an experiment, clicked on the “request a current account” button at the bottom. Felt like the wrong thing to do, as I already had a current account. Also felt wrong as the subsequent instructions looked like signup instructions.
But then my prepaid app suddenly merged in my current account balance and transactions. Great!
But still no “pots” feature visible. I clicked around everywhere. Nothing to be seen.
So I force-quit the app, and finally, “pots” is there. Very good feature. Took a bit of trial and error to get it, from a user perspective but now hopefully I’ll not have to go through this process again and can stick with the main app to see the state of the art.
Monzo iOS devs - I hope there is some food for thought there. How many people are still using the TestFlight app, unaware that they need to switch? And how many will know to force quit their main app to get the latest?
I don’t know how the Wirecard implementation worked but it was only fairly recently they began to support mobile payments and regardless, it would have required complete reimplemention on the CA.
What I meant was that boon launched circa May 2016 so Monzo could have put this in with the Prepay app whilst still working on the CA
I am an Apple user. Not having Apple Pay on Monzo is not a deal breaker. I can still use my Monzo card.
- Just over two years ago, Apple Pay was not available to consumers
- Monzo only became a Bank in April this year
- Apple has strict NDA
- Monzo is working on it. Maybe. They can’t say
Yes, it would be a nice to have but people need to learn to be a little more understanding and tolerant. Unfortunately, for you millenials, the internet has taught you to want everything immediately and value nothing.
Give Monzo a break and let them work on it. Give the rest of us a break from your bleating on about it all the time. Enjoy what you have.
If you really need Apple Pay, open an account with Starling. They implemented it really well.
[edit] whilst I quoted @GalaxyMergirl, my post is not a criticism of their quote, their quote just prompted my post in reply to previous posts by other contributors.
…plus they have Fitbit pay
Did they?
I’m leaving Monzo now for the TCB… see ya later guys…
I think you need to spend some time reading things before complaining about them.
Danny, you can have both
Same here. I prefer to use Apple Pay where possible, and I still can, just not with Monzo (yet). I see it as Monzo’s loss, not mine.
Patience is needed when it comes to this topic. Monzo HQ is busy rolling out current accounts, arguably a more important step than Apple Pay. It is coming it just takes time - it isn’t the end of the world, it isn’t that much effort to take your card out of your wallet for the time being. If you think how far Monzo has come in the past few months it’s amazing they’ve even got that much done, never mind Apple Pay on top.
I’m pretty sure Apple Pay is pretty much complete on Monzo’s side from previous hints…hold up is probably more Apple. Android Pay was probably more straight forward, because its not Apple…however it will just suddenly appear at some point, but until that time we won’t know, because they can’t even mention they are working on it because of NDA.
Ah the old millennial jab. Had to happen sometime on this forum.
I recently asked them directly about this (it seems like any info they’ve released is a bit evasive and non-commital). I asked if it was likely it would happen at all and I got this response;
At this moment in time we are unsure, but it is something we will work hard on as we know our users are so keen on it.
I was a bit annoyed at how vague they were being, as for me it is a pretty big deal-breaker and even my ‘old-fashioned’ bank sorted it over a year ago, and are now implementing similar features to Monzo on their own app. Somebody mentioned Apple having an NDA regarding this stuff, which would explain their reluctance to say anything though, so I understand that. I hope Apple doesn’t mess it up for us because I am a heavy user of Apple Pay!
I love Monzo, but isn’t the whole product marketed on convenience? I take my Monzo card everywhere but I never use it because it’s easier and faster to just use my phone (I’m a woman and they never put pockets in our clothes for some reason so my wallet is always in my backpack). I know it’s not the case for everybody but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want it as a major feature especially considering they have competition.
Either way I have a bit of faith and will stick it out, I imagine it’s Apple being difficult more than anything, so hopefully some day!
It sounds like your clothes companies are more of the problem than Monzo hahaha, but seriously I have no doubt that Apple Pay is on the way - there’s really high demand for it, it’s on the roadmap, and there’s been vague mention of it for a while. The whole NDA thing is why we don’t have more info but I can’t see us having to wait that much longer.
It would be great to use Apple Pay with Monzo
