Apple Pay - Any updates?

This is good to hear. However, a quick question, will contactless over £30 work for cards as well as Apple/Android Pay if it’s supported?

Over £30 it requires some form of device verification and won’t work with pain old cards :credit_card:.

Yeah well I think it’s advantageous for credit checks etc to have more than one bank account anyway.

Well… it requires some form of verification, in the UK, but that could be online PIN (rarely supported on UK terminals) or signature (likely to be declined by the issuing bank, but COULD happen).

Haven’t seen one yet that does, but don’t do all that many £30+ transactions. The big supermarkets certainly don’t, but they were the last to support contactless, so no great surprise.

Waitrose and Sainsbury’s both do I’m pretty sure. They’re big.

And Morrison’s as well

I sometimes get lunch at Waitrose, will need to find something bigger to buy…

Liquid lunch?

Can’t wait for Apple Pay to be added. Hopefully it’s coming soon and will be even easier to use my Monzo account.

It’s Waitrose. It shouldn’t be hard to spend more than £30

Still waiting patiently for Apple Pay, and for meaningful updates to the current account mobile app. Been a while now… feels like the pace of innovation at Monzo has really slowed, and I’m struggling to recommend it to friends, when the alternatives are catching up.

Feels like Monzo shifted focus to Android users - a demographic known for less disposable income, less expenditure and later adoption of NFC payments (see links below)

Don’t let Starling overtake you, Monzo - they now have Apple Pay, and if Monzo can’t catch up by the end of the year, or at least give some kind of timeframe, I expect a lot of iPhone users will switch over to Starling.

What should Monzo’s focus be? Look where the votes from your loyal customers are going:

I’m amazed that for a supposedly progressive challenger bank that prides itself on innovation, Monzo does not have Apple Pay yet.

For ages Monzo customers have been requesting Apple Pay, right back to the start of the prepaid card customers have asked for it, and it’s been ‘Not yet, we’re waiting for the current account’. Well, the current account is here and no big announcement?

Lots of your customers are fixated with Apple Pay, if you don’t provide it soon, customers will go elsewhere to get it. I think Apple Pay for some is more important than the account.

It’s not like it’s new, or even a surprise that your customers wanted it. So what is the hold up now?

As always. :slightly_smiling_face:

Not great news then.

I do think that’s unfortunate, if I was an Apple user, it would greatly reduce how much I’m using my Monzo card. It’s still a great product, but CDCVM for high value contactless (well, in the UK, where online PIN isn’t widely supported and signature isn’t considered sufficient as CVM) and the simple simplicity of not having to dig a card out when my phone’s already in my hand make mobile payments just magical to me.

That said, there’s never been a card I’ve wanted to pull out just to show it off more than Monzo

Obviously, each person’s own behaviour affects convenience. My phone is usually in my hand. My wallet is in my handbag or backpack…

I’m sure there are agreements in place, I was surprised the account didn’t launch with it, it’s been around long enough now. People have been asking for it ever since it came out and ever since the prepaid card started.

Obviously I see the point in not having it for the prepaid card, then having to start again with a full current account. But now the current account is here…

It’s strange that one though, as Barclays and others were able to announce in advance that it was coming.
