AFAIK, Starling uses Global Processing Services (GPS) rather than rolling their own. GPS supports Apple Pay, making Starlings implementation ridiculously simple compared to the work involved for Monzo.
If Monzo stuck with GPS, we’d have Apply Pay by now, however we’d also have all the issues that come with GPS.
Equallly, there are no actual facts here which suggest that Apple Pay is anything more than an intangible desire that Monzo would love to offer at some unspecified point, unless you can present me with one?
That, plus its conspicious absence on the roadmap, worry me that it’s not exactly round the corner, which, for a bank of the future, I find strange and worrying.
I would willingly pay £50 to be proved incorrect* - I really, really want to be!! I’m so passionate about this because I think Monzo have the right idea - their service is excellent and, whilst I’m frustrated with the lack of new features, I get this is a long haul. I’m just concerned that the lack of info and the continual ‘we’d really like it to’ responses are suggesting a basic feature which I’ve been waiting for now for a whole year isn’t imminent.
But if I’m wrong, then I will be the happiest incorrect gentleman alive.
