Will this actually take off? I think it has the best chance of all initiatives to date given the support of the three major consumer OS vendors. But passwords have proved to be extremely resilient (in their ongoing use, if not in terms of how they are used!).

Is this even a good thing? It’s clearly an improvement for the people who use
secr3T!as their password on every site, but for those of us using a password manager to supply a unique 30-character random set of alphanumeric+symbol passwords to each account, this could be a downgrade since if someone gets your computer password or phone passcode, they have access to everything.

Physical FIDO keys are a great idea, the problem is making sure people have enough backups, and if you allow account recovery via email or SMS its negates some of the benefits.
