Apple : Fall 2018 Event, new iPhones etc

I tried to sell my iPhone 7 Plus on there, every time the purchase got revoked by eBay because they were a suspected seller. Ie. eBay thought their account had been compromised etc.

I ended up sending it through to Mazuma Mobile - as that’s where I got a good price, with zero effort and cost.

I might getting ahead of myself here, but am I right in saying that if I bought £1k+ iPhone using Monzo & Apple Pay via the Apple Online Store, Monzo would let the transaction straight through without blocking? I’ve had several issues in the past with legacy banks, hoping I won’t get the same this time around? :monzo:

I had this issue too so it would be good to know.

I tried to buy an iPhone X with my Smile Credit card through Apple Pay online to pickup instore (they were still rare back then). Apple Pay authorised it and confirmed and Smile initially authorised it but then blocked it as I was travelling into Manchester and Apple blocked the order. When I arrived, I just walked in to the Apple Store and paid through Chip and Pin with the same card.

Similar thing happened to me last year!

Bought online via Apple Pay/Lloyds Credit Card on Mac, all went through fine initially but then had a notification from Apple saying they were unable to take the payment. What felt like 1000s of calls later and a lot of flapping on my part (thinking I would miss my shipping date), it turned out there was a cap on Lloyds Apple Pay even though it was ‘successful’. Had to give Apple alternative payment details over the phone :man_technologist:t2:. Then there’s been other times with other legacy banks where they’ve outright rejected my purchases in store. Not good when there isn’t even signal in the Apple store to call the bank.

After setting up a program to monitor the Apple website for when I could reserve an iPhone X when they launched last year, I got declined on the upgrade programme three times over three separate reservations (credit file took a hit oops). It wasn’t until February when I gave up and got a zero percent credit card and pay basically the same amount each month (slightly less actually) for phone, case and applecare, only it works out a lot more flexible (although with a more unreliable upgrade process).

We’ll see what comes out this year, but I doubt it’ll be worth me trying to sell my X and then buy another new one (on a new credit card I guess).

I’ve iPhone 7 and looking to get X Plus perhaps but will wait and see what the options are. I tried the upgrade program last year but was declined for some reason (credit score is good). So instead I’ve saved up for it this year and buy it out right.

Other things I’d like to see at the Apple event is Watch faces that change (or at least complications) depending on my location. So example, I’ve arrived at work and perhaps watchface with email, message and stocks complications appear. I then go into the shopping area and watchfsce with Monzo  Spending complication appears and when I get home the watchface with Home app, Apple TV remote complications appear. Probably too complicated yet but would be fun.

Hi all,

Quick question - I’m on the Apple Upgrade Program and hopefully going upgrade to a new one this year.

Does anyone know if a Monzo account can be used as the main account for the loan repayments to be taken out off?

I used a Barclays account but have since swapped over to Monzo this year and wanted to see if anyone had any difficulties whilst signing up for the program?

Thanks

I believe you can change it over the phone to use your Monzo account.

Yup. When I swapped my iPhone 7 last year, I setup the new upgrade plan with my Monzo account. That was back in the preview too I believe…

Would you mind updating the wiki? It still says they don’t accept the :monzo: sort code.

Okay, that’s good to know! Thanks for your help

On the topic of the Upgrade Programme, with Monzo not being on Experian credit reports, will the lack of an active current account or overdraft in the Barclays credit check on Experian be a problem?

That should be fine, Barclays use all three agencies it seems:

Huh. The rejection emails I get specifically told me to check Experian…

I mean that might as well be a referral deal with Experian… :man_shrugging:

I had the X, but it developed a fault and Apple gave me my money back. I currently have the 6! Only ever had a problem with battery drain, but that’s because it is old. Got that replaced and never had a problem with it since.

I will however be watching what they bring out, I liked the screen size of the X, and was perfect for my hand so something similar with camera upgrade will make me think about buying. Oled too?, yes please

What happened with your X? I had a problem with the camera a couple of months in, but they fixed it same day and not had a problem since.

EDIT: Also, does anyone say “ten” instead of “ecks”?

When I joined the upgrade programme last September it wouldn’t accept my monzo details. However, I was able to swap over to my monzo account after the first payment.

Battery drain. Would only last a day max with minimal use whereas my mates one would last a good couple of days. I took it to them and they said I could have another one for free or my money back
