I’ve the 2022 4K tv and I love it. I am however increasingly getting frustrated with the tv home page whereby it recommends things to watch across all your services - Netflix notwithstanding - what I’d really love to see in tvOS 17 is to make the interface smarter with recommendations as currently it’s recommending stuff I’ve already seen - and the tv knows I’ve seen it as it’s in recently watched list so recommending stuff I haven’t seen would be so much better experience. Second, the Apple TV+ mash up with the tv Home Screen occupies 6 large areas of the space. I appreciate they have to advertise it but it’s way too much. Again, if they have to show so much, it would be better if it discounted stuff I’ve watched and recommended + programs I haven’t seen. I guess we’ll find out in June.
Not sure where to stick this though I don’t think it warrants its own thread. Perhaps we need a generic “all things Apple announcements without an event” thread?
Considering picking up an Apple TV 3rd gen from eBay around £30 if not less.
Anyone here still rocking a 3rd gen? It’ll be for bedroom mostly.
I’d prefer chromecast but Google and iPhone don’t mix too well
I think that was pre tvOS?
If it doesn’t have tvOS, I don’t think any of the third party apps work on it anymore, and there’s no App Store. And I wouldn’t bother in that case unless you’re just after an AirPlay machine.
For £30 you can get a Roku box which supports Airplay and is up to date with the latest apps. Probably worth getting that instead.
For an extra tenner you can get a 4k Roku box
Was more for this tbh, chromecast isn’t supported on some apps on iPhone.
Ah I didn’t know! Thanks!
I have a Apple TV 3rd gen still works great runs tvOS 17
Is anyone finding Apple TV (the box) is a bit ‘wonky’ since tvOS 17?
I’m possibly one of the few (only?) person who has left the ‘TV’ button on the remote mapped to the Apple TV app because I find it useful to spot when new episodes of things I’ve watched are released.
However, I’m finding over the last month:
- It seems to get ‘stuck’ on saying that I’ve only watch 1/3 of a programme (ie - it’ll say '20 mins watched of 1 hr programme even though I’ve actually watched the whole thing).
- If I long press the programme to get the pop-up menu to select that I have actually finished watching something (more than 50% of the time), it’ll crash
- Some shows it doesn’t pick-up when there is a new episode (not sure if this is an Apple TV app issue, or an issue with the TV service app that’s showing the programme). I know Netflix doesn’t support this - but these are apps that I know do - like Amazon Prime, iPlayer and Discovery+
I had this, restarted it and it never happened again.
