App Evolution (new look Monzo app): Feedback Megathread šŸ“£

I really think that upcoming payments need to be a separate widget and not in the master feed!

The more I use this, the more I love the direction of travel.

A minor thing maybe, but I’d love there to be a different gesture to separate the main cards other than the tap.

For example, I keep trying to pull down to separate them. That would be cool, as would pushing up to push them back together.

It looks pretty, if cluttered as you scroll down. The order of cards seems backwards to me, with least important (flex) at the top and most important (personal account) at the bottom. Also latest activity is IMO far too short.

But alas I won’t be using it without left to spend… the total in the account is a useless figure to me - I don’t actually have that much money.

I’m not sure if this is causing the app to be soooo slow or Trends (targets). Refreshing on almost every screen and page loading times are around 3-5+ seconds. I’m on iOS.

Turned it on. Turned it off again(*) . Urgh… I’ll try and put something a bit more constructive together over the next few days (which will undoubtedly involve turning it on again and trying to live with it for a few days).

(*) Edit - after a good few hours.

Ditto!

I tested all day yesterday and one of the stand out things that I found most frustrating was my pots view.
I really like the current way that I can see all my pots full screen and easily glance at all balances but with new overview they scroll horizontally and even clicking on one only opens that pot with no way of seeing all pots as before.

I was just about to post the same thing as @DazF! Over the past day+, I’ve really enjoyed the new interface for using the app when I’m out and about. I look forward to a longer/customisable transaction list, but otherwise it’s so much quicker to see balances in both accounts, get to the section of the app I need, etc.

However for ā€˜managing’ the accounts I went to find the list of pots and couldn’t get to it. The only way is the ā€˜legacy edit’ mode which doesn’t show balances. There really needs to be a screen like the old overview, where you can see all accounts & pots and their balances listed.

I was just thinking how much I love the new pots view. So much so I’ve unhidden a bunch of them because this design works for me so much better.

I say that with a slight reservation, though, because not all pots are the same. For example, I want to treat my bills pot like an account and have it up top.

I think a bigger post on pots will be incoming!

I’m not really a ā€˜user’ so can’t comment on what it’s like using day-to-day. But it looks pretty similar to the UK home screen (with fewer offerings reflecting what is available for the US Monzo account).

As a way of navigating to a specific pot, I agree that the new pots widget is far better (and quicker!). But as a way of getting an overview of everything, it’s impossible because you can only see 2.5 at a time.

Exactly the same. I don’t want my pots all full screen, and I’ve now unhidden them all and can scroll quickly through to glance at what their balance is. So so so much better.

Does the total next to Pots not help here? I find it’s better than the old view, because there was not (I don’t think) a total there…

Now, just need totals against Other Accounts too (but these need to be broken down into current, savings and credit card accounts )

I suppose the thing that’s then missing is a total figure. I’m in the market for net worth (but only after manual accounts so I can get everything in there), totalled day-to-day spend (current accounts, some credit cards, some pots), savings, and short/long term debt.

Loving how checking and credit cards are split out (but savings still needs to be separate imo!)

It’s a nice addition, but I’m a lot more interested in how much is in each individual pot than the total of them all (I’ve separated the :pound: into pots for a reason!). That was the information I could quickly skim through on the old screen.

We need to talk about Pots!

Having had a bit of a mull over, I think folk are coming at the Pots question from different angles because Pots are trying to do three things:

  1. A place to stash some cash. Just a segregated place to put money to stop you spending it, or that you know is meant for another purpose. That money is ā€˜gone’ as far as you’re concerned.

  2. For savings. Whether it’s a savings pot or just a normal one, some folks use Pots to stash their hard earned savings.

  3. As a second current account. That might be for bills pots, for virtual card payments (I have virtual cards linked to a pot in Google Pay) or for some other purpose. But basically that pot becomes (more or less) an account in its own right.

I think the trouble is that each of these need to be treated a bit differently. For category 3 pots, I want them up top in the new design with the Flex and Premium cards. For category 1 pots, I want them as they are, in a nice unobtrusive horizontal slider. For category 2 pots, I want them in a different savings section where I can see all of my savings together in one place.

Totally agree with this. And just got my notification for my monthly credit score update with plus, which shows up at the very top of the overview screen:

I went back to the old view to check and see this has always showed up above the feed as opposed to within it:

I feel like it would make sense for other non-transaction related notifications (such as enabling a new feature in labs) to show up in the same way above/separate to the feed too.

Also separate note but just want to say how fantastic it is to now be able to get to settings with one click on your profile button/picture from Overview!

I think this is the best summary of Pots I’ve seen and got me thinking about mine - definitely not a one-size fits all.

Just noticed this too with my green card, no pink Monzo for me on the Overview screen!

Seems like this might be an iOS issue so just flagging for the team @emmag :innocent:

Flash poll!

Given we’ve moved away from the skeuomorphic cards on the old carousel view, should the new in-app cards have the same colour as the physical cards?

  • Yes! This is important
  • No! Give me white for Premium, blue for Plus or hot coral for standard, no matter the colour of my physical card
  • Let me choose the colour in Monzo
  • I really don’t care.
