Thanks for taking the time to engage here, really appreciated. Re the feeds and accounts, I think what I mean is that I would like a list of all accounts, and a full feed (ideally a global one then a per account one under accounts). The new Overview I find confusing as it is trying to put all these concepts into one Overview tab, with lots of different widgets treating some things differently. I do feel it would be better to take a step back, remove lots of widgets and focus on these essentials on Overview.
To answer your question, it shows my external accounts separately in a pots list (unlike now), and the feed excerpt doesnât show all transactions, just a few transactions, which is not very useful, so while it does show these things it feels like a step back to me from the current list of accounts.
A couple of examples:
- Iâm not sure about the card metaphor for accounts, but if you want to do that, they should all have the same treatment and be in the same (editable) list IMO, not one list for a few major accounts, another for external, another in a different space-hogging style for pots and external pots etc which wonât work if people have loads of pots. Show name and balance is enough then tap the account to see the full feed/manage as at present.
- A feed is most useful when it shows lots of entries (a full screen really) so that I can see all the recent and upcoming transactions at once, along with any notifications you want to send. I love the feeds and would be sad to see them downgraded like this - would prefer a global feed (again with editable accounts to keep people happy who only want to see some things).
Itâs interesting on pots people think of them so differently and treat them so differently. I think of them as accounts, but I know some see them as strongly subaccounts (even though some are not at all associated with the current account say), and some even have hit the limit on their numbers.
I donât see customisation as the answer here - some bold decisions are required to foreground the most important stuff, which will upset some but better IMO than having a home screen which is infinitely customisable which would be a huge support burden and also fragment the experience so that you design to one experience but many see something entirely different. As one example of that, if you have a feed but most hide it, you then expect people to see that feed and put notices there, but people wonât see them as theyâve hidden it.
So personally Iâd like to see a feed on its own tab, and accounts on their own tab, fine to have some other stuff below the fold I guess on the accounts screen (as you do on home currently), but those central concepts are just not something you can stuff into one screen in small widgets along with lots of other stuff. So to me this is where the current screen doesnât work so well - there is too much going on and I would prefer to see this split into two tabs/screens on the app - these are the central concepts and deserve that much space. Other stuff belongs below the fold or on subsidiary screens IMO.
I turned off the custom home for now in labs because of this confusion and some update bugs but will try it again soon. Exciting to see Monzo working on major changes to the app again and engaging with the community.

Weâve got a few things in the pipeline which I think align with a lot of your thinking here, Iâm curious to see how those changes work for you (hopefully in the next few weeks)

Is there a way to get to the âbirds-eye viewâ layout (all accounts and pots in one list that you get to from pulling down the old main page) from the new Overview screen?

Is there any thought of allowing you to see Loans with other banks, using your credit file like mortgages? I have a barclayloan Iâd like to be able to see.

I tried the new look again but hit another little bit of friction. Because the new month is fast approaching I have a lot of pending direct debits showing.
So this morning when I saw a little ( 1 ) badge on my Monzo I went to see what it was. I opened the app and the âlatest activityâ section just shows three greyed out direct debits. Not the actual transaction that just happened. So I had to tap in and scroll.
In my opinion pending direct debits should get their own section on the overview screen. Or be lower priority. Itâs good to know they are coming but not if they obscure actual, current, spend.

Iâm not sure if this comes under the remit of the new Home Screen design, but why is there not better options for the images of pots?
I feel like if theyâre going to be front and centre on the screen, give us better options. I had to make these ones myself by trawling through the website to find vaguely relevant images to match my pots, then Photoshop them on to the Monzo brand colours but it should surely be easier than this since thereâs already a massive library of these illustrations that exist? One of your designers could easily put each one, on each colour background (that works) and have them exported ready to go.
Also if thereâs a pet illustration anywhere please tell me where, my vet bills pot is not even remotely related because I couldnât find a Monzo themed pet illustration

Yeah I agree! I recently found this pot image generator by a legend called Robb Knight, made my pots look a million times more aesthetically pleasing. Would love a feature in app thatâs inspired by this

Been using this tool for years now â absolutely essential! Buy him a coffee if you can!
Thanks for the feedback on this, we played around with making the blur a bit nicer but it still made a bunch of images look weird. Instead Iâve replaced it with a gradient fade, but extracting the dominant colour from the bottom third of the image. Pretty happy with the results and it should be in next weekâs TestFlight build!
