How are the account numbers generated?
I was hoping for a relatively low numbered one but got one that seems fairly high (08xxxxxx)

They’re random at present. It will also never be possible to have entirely customised account numbers due to modulus check requirements. There has been some discussion of this in the past though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if some option game about in the next few months.

Sequential numbering contains a risk of account spoofing by fraudsters as was evidenced at Tesco Bank. Account numbers won’t therefore run sequentially and normally contain a modulus check digit which means that it’s unlikely that the account number you receive from any bank will indicate where in the sequence of account numbers you stand in terms of when you opened the account.
My account number is is 487XXXXX yet I know from the transparency screen that I’m one of the first 1000 odd Monzo account holders. The account number doesn’t indicate anything in particular.

I did get a verrry cool account number though. Looked at it once and I doubt I’ll ever forget it 
Same here! I was very excited when I saw mine.
Mines 856xxxxx and I was in the up of users to get the account
