I have a profoundly disabled adult daughter and i need to set up an account for her (with card) that is managed by myself and accessible (via the card) by her carers. At the moment we are cash based but its now easier to be card based. My aim will be to top up her account as required so that all her living expenses can be covered. My daughter is unable to communicate.
Is it possible to do this?
Alternatively i have an existing monzo account, would it be possible to set up a pot in my daughters name and serviced by a seperate card for this pot only?
Starling Bank are really the only bank that will facilitate what you’re asking for.
Typically, in these arrangements, your daughter would need to have her own business account for this facility, assuming it’s the Direct Payments scheme you’re using to employ and pay the carers. Business accounts offer the sort of functionality required for these arrangements, though the scheme itself will often push you towards a second normal bank account in your (daughters) name to be exclusively used for that stuff.
Monzo aren’t the right bank for this, unfortunately. It’s an area they fall short on and could certainly do better, because it’s not just situations like your daughters where this would be an essential feature.
Connected card is great for this, but the parent wants access which is probably more a high street bank.
Lloyd’s bank allow a trusted person card option, and may allow third party access for the parent to oversee the daughters account held in the daughters name.
